Got them to the 2nd rd of the playoffs in one off-season, took Toronto SEVEN seasons after 'finishing' their rebuild (1 PO appearance in 11 seasons) to lose in the 2nd rd.

I wonder if Holmgren knew it was going to implode at some point, and just wanted to get back to the playoffs before he retired and left the mess for the next guy to clean up.

I was just happy CF only traded a 2nd and 3rd, some teams have traded numerous 1st rd picks trying to get into the playoffs. Unfortunately he wasted more draft capital not being competitive after it was clear the window had closed. Go figure.
Wow. They beat the #8 seed Montreal then lost to the #6th seed NYI. what an accomplishment. And how did they lose to the NYI? In the 4 games they lost, they were outscored by 11 goals. Dominated.

But what a rebuild it was! One mistake Fletch for ya.

Just for clarificaiton -- the Canadiens were 8th worst team in the league that year, and only even made the playoffs because of the expanded format.

What an accomplishment by winning a playoff series against a non-playoff team.

There's a good chance that Frost is immediately benched again after this game because he was rusty after sitting out for 16 days.
The only thing that will get Frost benched is Frost, Torts lives with TK's screwups, he lives with Tippett's mistakes and misfires, he'll live with Frost as long as he shows up for every shift and stops gliding through shifts. I don't think Frost is "lazy," rather, he doesn't have a high motor and tends to be passive off the puck.

Congratulations. You finally typed out what everyone else already knows - Torts has double standards. That why Tippett can have horrible defensive results, not show effort on backchecks, and stay out for extended shifts without ever getting benched. Tortorella's designated whipping boy cannot get away with anything like that.

Might I add that this was a series where the high dollar coach shit down his own leg so badly that a team with an actual chance to win a Cup struggled to beat that awful team. It gave us one of the rare occurrences of an NHL coach clearly and undeniably being what sunk a team.

And then they kept running him out there for 2 more years while trying to compete.

He did that because the Flyers were tired and didn't have their legs.

:sarcasm:

It's also not a fair team to come in against.

This Carolina team has been dominant, even if their record hasn't been great. According to Edge, Carolina is in the upper percentiles for skating speed, and ES skating distance. They shoot from all over the place as well, long range, mid-range, in tight. They spend more time in the o-zone than anyone else, and less time in the d-zone than anyone else.

But I thought Torts benches everyone?
