Flyers would pass and let the Caps take him.

Then Ovechkin's pal Putin makes a special exception to get him over here.

I've been thinking the Caps make a strong play for Michkov too. Hopefully the GMs ahead of them aren't stupid enough to gift him to them.

If the Caps are able to make a play for him, i.e trade up, so should we.

IIRC, trades of top-10 picks rarely occur leading up to or at the draft like they do in the NFL. GMs are more likely to reach for a player they like rather than trade down to pick up an asset.

Yup. When top 10 picks are moved, it’s usually for an established NHL player.

Looks like the last time a pure pick trade happened in the top 10 was in 2008. And it happened twice.

Now Michkov's status might be the thing that bucks the trend, but you have to wonder how much teams willing to trade up will be assuming he just continues to fall and ask, "why bother?"

We only have one Russian and he should be traded before the draft. Doesn't seem like a real destination for Michkov in the same way Washington is with AO as captain.

F*** that. The draft isn't about a player's preferred destination. If the team's assessment is that the Michkov hype is worthy, we need to make a play for him if that's on the table.

I wouldn't discount the idea of the Wings trying to get Michkov if he were there at 4. Federov is "advising" him on his future. That and the history of Red Wings and Russians might give Detroit and edge in bringing him over.

A good example of Torts' inability to see past his expanding gut is the fact that Tippett got twice as much PK time as Frost.

Tippett was one the ice for a incredible 10 goals against in only 30:48.

Frost was on the ice for just two goals against in 15:46.

Player Season Totals - Natural Stat Trick
The amount of ice time that Torts gave Tippett down the stretch was ridiculous. I mean you’d think he was the 2nd coming of Gordie Howe by the way Torts used him.
