Plus side, we'll also have a shot at Celebrini or Eiserman in next years draft.

I've actually thought about this a little.

From a realistic sense, because I can't see them having the mental capacity to understand a fire sale is the smart move here... They move Hayes, and Provorov. There will be some money spent on FA to satisfy Tortorella's requests whatever they may be.

I cannot see them finishing below Anaheim, Chicago, and San Jose again. At best I think you can hit 4, but once again Montreal, Arizona, and Columbus (even with Fantilli/Bedard), you risk of falling in this useless 7-8 range.

I do think we see a similar season next year in terms of overall performance, but the payout looks to be largely the same. What I am getting at is the Flyers will proclaim this season as a year of building, and I cannot disagree more strongly. The most important thing about this season - and last, was the final draft position, and they managed to get a whole lot meh when it came to where they would actually be picking. It's been two wasted years, and I see the next shaping up to be more of the same.

Picking 5 or 7th, is throwing seasons down the drain. It's not rebuilding imo. What Danny does over the next few months will say a lot.

You just have to hope they get lottery luck one of those two years at least. Even a 7-8 place finish next year gives us a realistic chance at moving into the Top 2 again. New York moved from 6 to 2 and 10 to 1 in back-to-back seasons.

Where was Rantanen picked? You can't get top players outside the top three picks?
And look at the Rangers, #1 and #2, and their best player was a 4th rd pick.

As long as the Flyers get younger, and any improvement is from young players developing, they're on the right track. The key is to continue to add assets, young talent, draft picks, etc. You can always trade for elite talent, Panarin, Stone, Eichel, etc. A lot of top players have moved in their mid-20s.

You have faith the Flyers crackhead scouting/developmental staff can find elite talent outside of the gimme picks?

Intriguing. They found two since 2006.

What sucks ?

He’s been perpetually labeled as being too slight of frame.

He’s not going to get a real shot here, that’s clear as can be. They have dicked around with him after nearly every rough outing in favour of the usual pets.

Once this org prematurely paints a picture of your worth in their heads, it’s a huge mountain to climb for a young player.

Curious how many other franchises would willingly tie themselves to John Tortorella in 2023, and allow him to have such influence over an organization.

The comparison to Calgary is fascinating. Sutter -- a coach with 2 Cups in his previous 8 seasons, who won the Jack Adams last year, who took Calgary to their last Cup appearance -- was unceremoniously canned after a season where the team was 3rd in xGF% and 31st in save % at 5v5. He can be an asshole in a mildly endearing way -- I'm not even saying he couldn't have been toxic -- but he runs circles around Tortorella tactically. His crime was the new acquisitions, being paid a lot of f***ing money for a long time, didn't like him and had bad individual years, after career years due for regression. And the players asserted their control. The previous GM was also let go.

But Tortorella rode into town selling snake oil and has now positioned himself, in an organization with dangerously low standards, as a culture savior. The Flyers don't have any long-term players that can assert control. Tortorella knows time is on his side. The new GM and President hires even need his stamp of approval.

I recommend that some of you guys meander over to the Bruins pages. Check out the locals sentiments on Montgomery. Not a happy place and they’re mostly blaming their demise on him. Good seasons where League winning records are set and a President’s trophy won are quickly poured down into the sewer. I can’t figure out why anyone would want to be a coach.

Does GMDB bring back ZMac to help the attack next season if the Kings don't qualify him?

Don't forget that at one point he was outscoring Frost, and ended up having a career year of 10 points in 56 games. And he'll only be 27 years old.
They have better players than that goof in the minors so it should be a resounding no. But this is the Flyers we are talking about so all bets are off.

Calgary is an interesting case study in the effects of goaltending on a team’s success. Not to say losing Tkachuk for what seems to be an impotent Huberdeau wasn’t problematic - but they had a horrific goaltending performance this season.

Tortorella has very much been handed the keys here, much more so than a regular HC. His reach is clearly beyond that of just managing the bench.

There was a thought that things were bad under Hextall/Hak. Worse under Fletcher, and Vigneault. Tortorella has managed under one season to have more power than any coach I've seen in my time for this team, and he's ensured he has the support of ownership.

What I am getting at, is when the time comes to consider a replacement... Good luck to Danny, because Torts looks primed to be moved a prime country club position, more so than banished from the team. After one year of rah rah speeches.

2 straight years Ullmark turned into a pumpkin in the playoffs. They really should move on from him. Montgomery did make some questionable decisions no doubt. Not pulling the plug on Ullmark sooner and he should of kept Bergeron out and let the guys that got them to 3-1 finish the job.
I am glad he didn’t. f*** the Bruins

You've repeatedly gone on about the chances of getting players of particular quality in various parts of the draft when it suits you. I do not believe you are ignorant.

I’m withholding the torch and pitchfork till the draft. If we don’t have an additional 1st I’m boycotting them again. TK would fetch a nice little haul after his year. If Couts is coming back, we need to shed skill somewhere else to get us lower in the standings and open up room for young guys. Dangle Hart too. I like him but goalies seem to largely be a result of the system they are in. If someone offers something nice, trade him. That helps us get in the basement more as well. Provy or Sanheim should be traded as well. Open up a defense spot to try out young guys. Laughton is the stereotypical deadline deal player. We’d get something nice for him. As far as this year’s draft goes, I think I’ll be content with whoever they take unless it’s out of left field. The draft is more of a crap shoot than people like to admit but it’s hard to know how a 18 year old will be in 5 years. The best players are rarely selected in order.

No. A swing and miss indicates that someone tried to a degree.
Fletcher didn’t even swing. He just stood there and watched it go by. Under the circumstances, with his draft status and the war in Ukraine going on, Fedotov should have been hustled out of the country to sign his deal and not gone back.

I wonder if its due to the Ullmark playing injured rumors? Thats an egregious mistake by Monty if so.

I wish Fletcher just let it go by. Fletcher repeatedly took beanballs and refused to take the base because it would be a long walk.
