Good news! Nelson and Finley!

How common is it for true freshman (are Finley and Nelson “true” freshman?) to make this team. And if it’s commin, are they usually 1st rounders/high draft picks?

Probably not rare
A number of players over the years played in it before they started college

I read some articles that had Nelson as on the bubble and others slotting him as a good bet to be the 4th line C (but also play the 2nd PP unit). I only read something recently that had Finley as a possibility, and it seemed to be based on all-around play and intangibles. He must be a really solid guy - the kind that prospect-rankers don't love but coaches do.

So pumped for Finley and Nelson

If we weren't already, we're all on the Team USA bandwagon for this tourney.

Finley and Nelson are the only two Isles prospects who'll be representing.

As mentioned in a previous post, Odelius is out with a fractured Fibula.

Speaking of Sweden, it was metnioned this summer that Alex Ljungkrantz had signed a contract with Färjestad (SHL) as of the 23-24 season.

Well, I dunno by what stipulation, but he's apparently been loaned out to Färjestad already this week.

His team, Almtuna, proceeded to lose 5-0 in its first game without him. Ouch!

Hoping that we can see Finley and Nelson do well. Ljungkrantz should (hopefully) come over in 2024's offseason, but we dont know. Its a very murky future for some of these guys overseas since, they really aren't "amazing" prospects.

The only reason he comes over here is to enroll in one of our MBA programs after retiring

He's about 507th on our depth chart . . .

Just came to post this!! Awesome news!!
What's interesting about Finley and Nelson is they both have August birthdays, meaning both were young for their draft years. Quinn, as many remarked, really looked like a kid. Nelson doesn't, but has shifted from D to W to C in the last couple of years. The only relation between Brock, and Danny is scouting by Klatt, lol. I think the 3rd-4th line max projection I've seen on him is bad (he could develop more, especially as a C), but I think bottom-6 F is a safe bet.

True.

And yet something tells me that a decent showing in Färjestad or even a return to Almtuna followed by the strong play he's shown there to date will have the NYI interested in signing him.

We could never understand this pick, but I've been watching his play this season rather closely and I'll be darned if he doesn't have some of the same traits as we're seeing now from Holmstrom.

The biggest realization this year is that he's been a PP monster from the right faceoff circle.

I was going to say, I think Ljungkrantz is being a bit underrated here when Liukas (who people consider the better prospect) is posting 1 goal and 0 assists in 18 games with Bridgeport (and they are the same age).

Finley starting out as the 1st line LW and Nelson as the 4C

Don’t know the system they’re running but I’d imagine because of Nelson’s defensive prowess they’re going to lean on him in the the PK and give him the tough defensive assignments.

He’s capable of offense but he may get pigeonholed into that defensive checking role. Not a bad thing though at this level.

Role is less important than the experience they are gaining.

I read somewhere that Nelson could be on the 2nd PP though.

That pass was ridiculous. Hutson the next Quinn Hughes

As a person who has a massive bias against these offensive mighty mites, Hughes is an anomaly and a Unicorn. For every Hughes, there are tons of kids with a similar profile who don't come close to that level. Don't know much about Hutson, but I can't bring myself to have a .001 chance of a Hughes or more likely a Ghost type of player. Offensively dynamic, defensive liability.

I have nightmares about Ryan Murphy.
