I wouldn't agree there... the Avs have made a number of changes over the years and many from outside the org. The hockey world is small, so you'll always find connections... but I think people would be surprised at the number of changes since 2016 and even 2019.

I'd guess that hardly anyone here realizes we snagged two absolute gems from Devils this year.
I hope you are right and they make an impact right away. We need prospects real bad.

One will be in Russia, so we will see how their work is received pretty clearly. One oversees pro and amatuer stuff... more CMac's right hand guy more than boots on the ground amateur scout.

Should the Avs be looking at signing G Ryan Bischel? Is he worth a try?
McKay and Bussi were my two favourites even though McKay probably doesn't have the height to go farther. Luke Pavicich at eliteprospects.com he's probably my favourite, has very decent numbers on a club that lost a ton of talent in a very good conference.

I think Hench is on point in terms of trying to sign Livingstone; he's by far away the best of any player IMHO. McAllister from Western Mich. is another really good one, but he probably goes back for more seasons (should've been drafted last year by a team with a 7th rounder).

Ok you convinced me. Let's sign all five of them. :thumbu::laugh::naughty:

McKay is in the Leafs organisation, Bussi is one of the best AHL goalers for the Bruins, Pavicich will probably stay longer, McAllister also stays longer, and Livingstone is done after this season, but I don't think he signs with Avs since he'll look at our defensive core and should have a multitude of opportunities elsewhere. He's an RD though and we miss those in the system.

A quality RD could find a place on the Avs in no time.

Gotta see the quality of the fists.

Taylor Makar might be an AHL captain one day and there is value in that. Unless he’s a facepuncher, he’s not a nhl player.
It would be hilarious if he ends up carving out a role as an enforcer for the Avs. Cale, one of the most talented, elegant players to ever play the game, and Taylor the stone-handed bottom 6 thug. Yin and yang

Livingstone would have a pretty damn easy path to the NHL here if he's good enough. His competition will be a 35 yr old Brad Hunt. a goon, and a tweener the Avs will inevitability sign in the offseason.

This was the first year Bischel had the net full time. He was a screen door early on and gave up some comically bad goals, but positioning improved dramatically during the course of the season. Ended with great numbers against a brutal schedule against NCAA top offenses. Rebound control needs work (which probably was the reason why he led the country in saves) and will probably be the main reason I don't think he'll attract a lot of interest. NCAA post-COVID rules allow players to return for a 5th year, so I think there's a good chance Bischel returns to ND for a grad degree (same route Leivermann chose).

Aamodt went to the same school as Livingstone. Maybe tossing him an ELC last year was trying to build some in-road with the program. Akito Hirose is another possibility from there.

I'll add TJ Hughes to the names already mentioned. Probably heads back to Michigan next year, but would love to see him at development camp (if the Ava actually take development camp seriously as a tool to recruit free assets).

Hey for us an AHL captain with a 7th round pick is the step in the right direction (even though the pick was almost solely to keep Cale happy). We’ve had 2nd round and 1st round picks be out of the AHL within 5 years (Heard, Bleakley, Siemens, Hishon). Just based on his name I’m sure he’ll get around 17 career NHL games.

I think the notion that we hit on top picks is also false:

2011 - Landy good pick, Siemens bad pick
2013 - Roy made the MacK decision and really we couldn’t have gone wrong selecting him or Barkov
2015 - Mikko essentially fell into our lap there was a drop off in tier right after our pick
2016 - Jost bad pick
2017 - Probably the single best pick in Avs history as it was ballsy and the right call taking Makar
2018 - bad pick taking Kaut
2019 - Byram is iffy there are 3 guys taken after him that look a tier above him imo, Newhook not trending in a great direction but also looks like a drop in tiers happens right around him/Krebs
They did try to trade up to secure Rantanen.
