Again though, they could have gone radio silent for a year, occasionally popping out their heads from behind the curtain to say, "Hey remember us!? We're still polishing!" or they could put out a limited, beta launch to keep the players active, while continuing to work on things behind the scenes.

No way, now, of knowing which way would've been more successful in the end, but I am not shocked (and personally think it makes more sense) they didn't want the players sitting/playing in assorted amateur leagues for a year

It was certainly rushed, and you better hope it's not a completed project, but it's here now!
My only correction to that train of thought is that the on-ice product was rushed, but the "project" was in works within the PWPHA for over 4 years. So perspectives regarding timing & maturity are bound to be debated for some time to come.

Just how much clout and pay does a special advisor for the PWHL have/get to be able to poach someone like Cassie Campbell-Pascall from her 20-year broadcasting career?

The PWHPA didn't create the PWHL though. They negotiated a CBA and worked over the last four years to find an investment group that would create a league to play in. They hit paydirt with the Walters Group (LA Dodgers Owners). The PWHL is the creation of the investors, not the players. Saying the PWHPA has been around for four years so they shouldn't have needed to rush anything is disingenuous and misrepresenting the process. The Walters group had 6 months to create a league, not four years. All the PWHPA was doing was looking for someone to partner with where the PWHPA would provide the players and the investors the infrastructure for a league.

Was it risky creating a league in 6 months? Sure. Is it paying off? Hard to argue it isn't considering how many sell outs there are so far, the numbers for the YouTube stream, the fact that the majority of their games are on cable which neither the CWHL/PHF came close to, and now they're in a position to garner more media attention/overall hype when the release team names/logos/actual jerseys in late summer/fall. Maybe it all falls off and it was for nothing. I've been watching the women's game since 2002 and I've never felt more comfortable in a league than I do now.

Fair assessment of the situation, though your "disingenuous" descriptor was far off the mark. But it's all part of the process of establishing common ground.

After one period, MTL 0 - OTT 0. SOGs weighted toward Ottawa (10-4), and Montreal killed off 3 minor penalties. Lots of physical play for those who didn't think there would be.

The PWHL is the hurriedly shined penny in North American hockey. Worth picking up off the sidewalk & looking at it for potential value for a small number of people who are naturally curious, but the League has a LOT more buffing & polishing to do to make their currency worth bending over to even look at it for the vast majority of hockey fans. The clock is ticking, as foot traffic moves on quickly in 21st Century sports entertainment. ⏱️
For sure it’s not all put together they way you would expect for a pro league kicking off, ie. the lack of logos, team nicknames etc. but I suspect there was some forces at work that caused them to strike without having everything nailed down- maybe limitations on financing windows or something that was bigger than not being a perfectly polished penny out of the gate. Fingers crossed.

It will depend on the teams playing. There have been clear advantages offensively in both games so far, and the talent balance across the 6 teams is not even.
League wide, 6 team goals in 10 team periods. It averages out to 1.8 G/gms/team. Very small sample size but most shots are not good enough to beat the goalies straight up.
