We've got about 18 days left to sign C/RW King and C/LW Hvidston or we lose their rights. I have no idea why Verbeek likes cutting it close, considering all of the other players he's already signed to a future contract. Or maybe he isn't cutting it close at all. I could have sworn I read or heard Verbeek cite Hvidston's name as one of those who will be in San Diego next season. I maybe wrong on that.

I hope we sign them both they deserve a chance

The Memorial Cup field is now set. Saginaw (Rodwin Dionicio) were automatic entrants as the host. London (Sam Dickinson) are the OHL champion after a convincing sweep of Oshawa.

Moose Jaw (Vojtech Port) will be representing the WHL after beating out Portland to win their first WHL title.

Drummondville won the QMJHL in convincing fashion. They don't have any Ducks prospects or largely relevant draft eligibles, but are a deep club with nine point per game scorers.

This was the first time ever that all three league finals resulted in sweeps. Dionicio and his host team Saginaw should have their hands full with these three league champs, but the Spirit are a strong team in their own right.

Here is the full schedule for the Memorial Cup, which begins on Friday. Dionicio (Saginaw) and Port (Moose Jaw) are our only prospects in the tournament.

So still nothing on Connor Hvidston and Ben King? That is sort of very strange to me.
I think what we’ve seen so far with PV is that he literally works on one thing at at time, as opposed to negotiations with multiple players at the same time. He just signed Dionicio, so now on to the next person, whoever that may be.

It is possible that Verbeek does not want to sign either of them. I would take a shot on Hvidston. I am not sure if King is worth an ELC. Perhaps he can be signed to another AHL contract.

I'd like to think he's busy on other things or ot is just unannounced with SM manager spreading out the calendar/news.

Both Hvid and King are Pat's picks that have at least lived up to expectations, I'd be very surprised if he doesn't resign them.

LW Myatovic is already signed. He is listed at 6'3 and 187 lbs. Drafted in the 2nd round of the 2023 draft. C/LW Hvidston isn't signed at the moment. He is listed at 6'2 and 185 lbs. Drafted in the 5th round of the 2022 draft. Hvidston is only 2-and-half months older than Myatovic, but in different draft years due to being an early Sept birth.

Kinda baffled that Hvidston hasn't been signed already if Myatovic was signed. Hvidston's goal scoring has steadily improved over three WHL seasons.

Another feature that Hvidston possesses is his ability to take draws.

Hvidston is over 50% for the first time in the WHL this past season. And because it's a very large sample size, it's a more reliable production.

Connor won't turn 20 until Sept 11. Guess he'll be put back into the draft or become a UFA if he isn't signed by Jun 1st.

Jim Johnson commented on pretty much every forward prospect we have. A couple of things I took away:
1. Gaucher was injured all last offseason and wasn’t fully healthy this past season. Johnson expects him to look much better next year.
2. He discussed King and made a comment that he wasn’t sure yet if he would still be in the organization next year.
3. He also discussed Hvidston, but he seemed a little more confident that he would be in the organization next year.
4. Tracey was not mentioned. Not sure if this is because he’s too old to be a prospect, or because they know he’s gone.

I had to read all the way until the last line to find out that...wait for it...Michael Callow is going to "be a force" next year. I'll be keeping tabs!

I kept tabs this past season. His game exploded after Jan 1. He gelled with his 3rd line mates and then got promoted to the 2nd line.

I'm hoping to see him improve his goal scoring a lot more next season. His three previous seasons at U16 AAA, High school, and USHL had goal scoring as his strong offensive production.
