Avs work very closely with Tri City… They placed Zhigalov there and tried with Shmakov for their goalies. Ambro, Clurman, and Yoon were all there. The Avs work with them quite a bit. So while outside, in the network for sure.
That's interesting that they have such a good relationship with the Storm. They're definitely one of the better-run USHL clubs IIRC. Certainly better than the Stars here and the trainwreck Lancers up in Omaha.

I dunno, Darcy Tucker moved like a snail caught in molasses by the time he joined the Avs. That top line of Tucker - Stastny - Hejduk might have been the slowest top line of all time (unless you count the short-lived Toronto trio of Ponikarovsky - Allison - Antropov). What's crazy is that it actually worked...for like, 5 games or so.

Good deal. I do like the fact that, yet again, this doesn't appear to be an insular hire of a current or former member of the organization.
Tucker had an excuse, it was his last year in the league IIRC.

Hunt has looked this way his entire career.

Fun Tucker story while we're in the doldrums of August. I sat next to him for about an hour at the blackjack table in Vegas during the 2019 NHL Awards* festivities. He was a Scotiabank ambassador or something, so basically he was being paid just be there and slam Coronas. As a former resident of Lone Tree, he was excited to hear they now have a brewery. Highlight was him laughing about how he was somewhat excited to have been traded from a bad team (Montreal) to a far worse team (Tampa) since it effectively doubled his salary due to the tax liability offset.

*Not sure if it's changed post-COVID, but during this weekend at any of the high end hotels near the awards, you can throw a stick and hit a dozen NHLers just hanging around the casinos. Seeing 6'6 Ben Bishop trying to navigate a stroller through the nickel slot area is a sight.

Eagles sign three to AHL deals

The Colorado Eagles have signed forwards Tye Felhaber and Keaton Mastrodonato and defenseman Bryan Yoon to one-year American Hockey League contracts.

Felhaber appeared in 50 games with the Milwaukee Admirals in 2023-24, setting AHL career highs with 10 goals, 13 assists and 23 points. He also made his Calder Cup Playoff debut in 2024, recording one assist in four games.

In 164 career AHL contests with Milwaukee, Syracuse, Texas and Laval, Felhaber has totaled 25 goals and 29 assists.

Mastrodonato played 19 games as a pro rookie with the Texas Stars last season, scoring four goals. He also notched 24 goals and 18 assists in 48 games with Idaho (ECHL).

In his first pro season, Yoon skated in 18 games with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack in 2023-24, collecting two goals. In 35 contests with Utah (ECHL), Yoon notched three goals and 14 assists.
