Granlund isn't remotely in the same Stratosphere as JT Miller and Rants.

Nope, but the contenders in need of 2Cs still need them. Rantanen's played a little C, but more importantly he can drive offense like a top C. The Miller, Petterson, Rantanen dominos were always going to fall first.

With Miller traded and Petterson likely staying in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Minnesota, Toronto, Colorado, and maybe NJ or WSH will target Granlund. The other top centers are Nelson (2C), Gourde (3C and injured), Bjugstad (3C). Vegas and TBL may also be interested though as a winger.

Hopefully the Islanders can make a run and reduce the pool further.

The problem with Granlund is the longer Grier waits to trade him the more teams fall out of contention and thus put their own pieces up for grabs. If I'm Grier I'm being active now.

You may be right. That pick will probably be 10-15 places higher than what the others return however. Much better player with term (at a reasonable price), however. SJ will probably send back a 3rd as well (either as part of the trade, or to pay someone to retain).

32 year old signed at $8M for 5 years after this with locker room strife isn’t an appetizing asset, especially mid season. Add in a full NMC and the return was never going to be elite.

Granlund will fetch a 1st or a pair of 2nds and a prospect at worst.

We shouldn't underestimate the effect of Miller's NTC. Much like the Burns return was underwhelming in the eyes of some, it definitely affects the trade value.

Particularly with another center option being a massive question mark. Nelson is going to Minnesota or staying put in Long Island. Granlund is likely the best center on the market with Dallas, NJD, Winnipeg, and others needing a center in a big way. Going to be a sellers market with the east as tight as it is this year.

Vancouver made out like bandits in the JT Miller trade. On paper the trade helps nobody but the Rangers are trending way down and the lottery protection on that pick could land Vancouver an even better pick in 2026.

Yep I honestly think Grier should be super active shopping Granlund and take the best deal he can get before the 4 Nations. I would rather not risk an injury happening to Granlund at the 4 Nations as he honestly doesn't even look 100% for the past 1-2 months.

I also doubt Granlund gets the same as Pitts gave up. I just don't see it.

I'm not overly worried about the injury angle, but GMs will definitely be spending that time figuring out how to make their teams better and I'm not 100% any GM will trade someone currently playing in that tournament.

I would be shocked if NY doesn't make a huge push. The trade will ultimately be a late first, and Chytil, who's one nudge away from never playing again. I get it had to happen, but if I'm a Vancouver fan I'm not thrilled with the return.

Realistically, I don't know if Gourde has too much impact on the market for Granlund. Gourde is on pace for 30 points but is seen as a playoff type of guy. Granlund is on pace for 70 points but isn't seen as a playoff player.

I think both of those make the most sense as well. NJD lacks a 1st rounder, but does have a trio of 2nds. Granlund won’t land us Nemec on his own, but curious how a deal like that could line up and what we’d need to add to make it happen.

Would be interested in Salomosson in a deal with WPG as well (in addition to some draft capital). Only played half of the AHL season, but good size and RH on the backend with solid production for an AHL rookie (plus solid SHL stats last year).

Not saying value-wise, saying that Gourde and Granlund are not remotely interchangeable in terms of team-building.

If you're pursuing Gourde, then you're strictly looking for a shutdown 3C. If you're pursuing Granlund, you're looking for a guy who is a legit top-6 center, but maybe isn't going to be a matchup guy. I just don't think a team looking for one of those guys will have interest in the other.

Aside from the fact that I don't think he's actually on the block and even if he were, the Kings would never trade him in-division?

I'd see if they'd bite on one of our non-Dickinson LHD prospects plus our 2nd. I value him similarly to Jiricek at the time of his trade.
