I think Nemec will not be traded for spare parts either -- and I think that Granlund + Zetterlund + 2nd is spare parts. Zetterlund is a solid middle 6 winger, but Granlund is a rental on the wrong side of 32 and a weak 2nd in a weak draft isn't that exciting.
New Jersey is in a different position than Columbus, so their needs are different. But what makes his value substantially different from Jiricek’s?
IMO he's better than Jiricek. Jiricek requested a trade, seems to have some level of attitude/entitlement, and couldn't crack a pretty weak Blue Jackets defense. Nemec is blocked by Hamilton, Kovacevic, and Pesce, all of whom are established veterans playing at a top-4 level and hasn't requested a trade yet despite being in the AHL in his D+3 season.
It’s a 2.5 month age gap. They were drafted the same year. And I feel like they were considered interchangeable going into the draft, and the team that decided they wanted an RHD first just slightly preferred Nemec.
I mean, they're both RHD and Jiricek is 6'4" to Nemec's 6'1". Nemec went 2nd and Jiricek went 6th despite the size advantage. I kind feel like that says something about how they were viewed at the time.

I just have a hard time believing that you pass on a big RHD for a forward unless you don't think the RHD is as good as the forwards.
You think Bystedt + Ferraro gets it done? Because as much as I like the idea of Bystedt as a high end 3C longterm, I think Nemec is more of a need for this team.
I can't imagine the Devils would find Ferraro even remotely valuable. They have Siegenthaler, Hughes, and Dillon down the left side. All of them are far better than Mario.

Personally, I think Bystedt is comically overrated on this forum, both in terms of his future value to the team and his potential trade value. They're not going to trade their former #2 overall pick for a 3rd line C AHL prospect when they can get some other team's 3rd line center for peanuts.
I would at the very least make him a good offer. The lack of track record at 28 is honestly a bit scary, but he genuinely looks great this season. If he's down to take $6M per for five years, I'd probably do that.
Burns retreat if he wins a cup in Carolina would be sick. I’d give him literally any amount of money on a 1 year deal.
I've been toying with this thought. He's not all that good anymore but he'd still probably be our best non-Walman D. I would be in favor just for the fun of it.
