I wonder if a Granlund + Zetterlund + Col 2nd would be enough for Nemec. Losing Zetterlund would sting but these types of trades are supposed to hurt a little. Nemec will not be traded for spare parts.

I always look at the returns for Meier and EK to be combined since they were used to move up for Dickinson. So if the trade I mentioned happens it would be giving up Meier and EK for Dickinson, Nemec, Mukamadulin, and Musty.

That is just a master class in rebuilding while also adding the Hertl for Askarov trade as well.
I think Nemec will not be traded for spare parts either -- and I think that Granlund + Zetterlund + 2nd is spare parts. Zetterlund is a solid middle 6 winger, but Granlund is a rental on the wrong side of 32 and a weak 2nd in a weak draft isn't that exciting.

It sounds like Nemec was dealing with some sort of injury earlier on this season, which accounts for his poor play and mediocre AHL numbers. He's healthy and productive now and, need I remind everyone, only two and a half years removed from being the 2nd overall pick. He's not being traded for Granlund and some mid round picks, good lord.

I think the package would start with Bystedt+. NJ's biggest need is size in a middle-6 C. They also do like Zetterlund, so Zetterlund+ might be an option. I'm not sure how thrilled I would be to do either of those things, but I really do like Nemec and if he is available at all I absolutely think we should go after him.
New Jersey is in a different position than Columbus, so their needs are different. But what makes his value substantially different from Jiricek’s?

IMO he's better than Jiricek. Jiricek requested a trade, seems to have some level of attitude/entitlement, and couldn't crack a pretty weak Blue Jackets defense. Nemec is blocked by Hamilton, Kovacevic, and Pesce, all of whom are established veterans playing at a top-4 level and hasn't requested a trade yet despite being in the AHL in his D+3 season.

As you said, it's also a needs thing. A late 1st and change doesn't do anything for the contending Devils.

I mean anything is possible with trades tbh, dealin' Mike could strike!
It could also be a Nemec + Bad contract for Sharks assets ++
Don't know, but I think MG is doing a major scouting on the defensive department as we speak.

My priority for trades this deadline:
1. is Ferraro and that's involving the leadership change
2.Granlund and Ceci (if not re-signed)
After that it's tied between
Kunin
Sturm
Rutta
Kostin

And very last question is if Kovalenko is a part of your future? He could be used as a piece for a good deal.

Edit: I forgot about the goalies... Trade one of Georgiev/Vanecek for something.

Year younger, better AHL & NHL numbers, better draft stock?
It’s a 2.5 month age gap. They were drafted the same year. And I feel like they were considered interchangeable going into the draft, and the team that decided they wanted an RHD first just slightly preferred Nemec.

The rest of the points you & Jux raise are all valid. I don’t think we’d get him at pennies on the dollar for a futures package the way Minnesota got Jiricek.

I mean, they're both RHD and Jiricek is 6'4" to Nemec's 6'1". Nemec went 2nd and Jiricek went 6th despite the size advantage. I kind feel like that says something about how they were viewed at the time.

Everybody from 3-5 picked forwards though. It could’ve just been that the one team in the top-5 who wanted an RHD slightly preferred Nemec. Tough to say but maybe I’m understating it because I remember considering them interchangeable.

Nemec is just another small offenseman who could easily bust. If we can get him for something similar to the Jiricek return, fine, but it’s too risky to give up young established NHL players like Zetts.

I just have a hard time believing that you pass on a big RHD for a forward unless you don't think the RHD is as good as the forwards.

My recollection is that the top-5 (Wright, Slafkovsky, Jiricek, Nemec, and Cooley) were all seen as relatively interchangeable pre-draft. I know I personally had it Wright, Nemec, Jiricek, Slafkovsky, Cooley in that order (which I'm not proud of) but could have been convinced of any order being right. Gauthier was a very late riser. McKenzie's final list went Slafkovsky, Wright, Cooley, Nemec, Gauthier, and Jiricek in that order. I feel like the call was that Nemec was safer and Jiricek was the upside pick but had serious skating issues.

Anyway, my point is that I don't think Nemec is seen as the depreciated asset right now that Jiricek was at the time of his trade.

With regards to a potential Nemec trade, I think that if the Devils break camp next fall with all of Pesce/Hamilton/Kovacevic on their roster, that's when Nemec requests a trade. So NJ has some time to either move Hamilton (I'm curious if they'll be able to) or not re-sign Kovacevic. It sounds like they're trying to re-sign Kovacevic, but he might go searching for a big pay day after his breakout season and I don't think NJ can give him that kind of contract.

Whichever of Kovacevic or Nemec (or Casey or even Hamilton if they retain and pay us and he waives) shakes loose from NJ this summer, we should be all over IMO.
