Guys, I wanted AI to create for me my profile picture but instead of fire it would have a bunch of Macklin Celebrinis, and instead it created this monstrosity that I needed to share with you all.

I don’t know why the AI thinks a shark looks like a dog or why the main SharkDog has a handless extra arm or, finally, why 92 is also a number on the jersey, but for some reason this picture makes me think of our current team. It’s like, kinda similar to what a good team might look like but also, there are some issues…

AI is too much on the A side, not much on the I side.

I agree. If you think Zetterlund can be counted on to pop 20+ goals and 50+ points a season and be a positive player - and I do - I think buying some UFA years would be worthwhile. 4x5 is good, I’d probably try to get a 5th or 6th year. I think Fabian could be a solid middle 6 guys into his early 30s.
I would be very careful getting over-committed to any current wings on this team (even Eklund). They all benefit from playing a line higher than they would on a good team and they all have significant flaws. I would be equally open to trading them as I would to extending them, but I would be very cautious about how much money I would give any of them.

Also, fun fact I just realized - Kovalenko is only a few months younger than Zetterlund.

I think I might just use this as my profile picture if that is okay with you. It works well with my username too!

While I totally agree in principle with your caution; I’m of the opinion that it’s easier for a player to do well in a reduced role on a better team. In the case of Zetterlund, I think he’s likely to continue to do well in a middle 6 role against lesser comp on a better Sharks team vs a top 6 role he currently holds. I think it’s meaningful that Zetterlund is winning his minutes with his current deployment despite being on a bad team (at least according to GF% and +/-)

Additionally, at a certain point collecting a quality supporting cast is important. You could trade Zetterlund for assets with the hope that you would get what… another Zetterlund? He’s shown he fits in the group, he owns his minutes, he likes being here, and he’s in the right age group. Barring some crazy contract demands I don’t see why we wouln’t extend him for 4, 5, or 6 years.

It would depend on the return. I wouldn't actively go out of my way to get rid of a controlled player just because he's not a star. As long as whatever we pay him reflects his actual ability (middle 6 winger) and value around the league, that's fine because you can always move him if one of your prospects ends up being better than he is and you need to use him to fill another hole. What I want to guard against is paying him like he's a real first line winger, which he's not. He's just filling that role on this team because we have no one better.

Ex Sharks too.

I'm disappointed though that we didn't get any defensemen or goalies onto Team Worst though. I feel like we really did our best to make that team, but I guess we overachieved more than it felt like we did.
I'm also shocked 4iorgiev didn't make it on worst goalies either, must mean we can flip him at the deadline for a 3rd

I know this has been talked about ad nauseam but with this back to earth L streak, they gotta sell Granlund for a 2nd if it comes right? I mean sure hold out for a 1st somehow but this team is still rebuilding and has to make the best outta their assets. I was in the middle all season with the Id be happy either way, but they gotta flip these vets
