Guys, I wanted AI to create for me my profile picture but instead of fire it would have a bunch of Macklin Celebrinis, and instead it created this monstrosity that I needed to share with you all.

View attachment 954137

I don’t know why the AI thinks a shark looks like a dog or why the main SharkDog has a handless extra arm or, finally, why 92 is also a number on the jersey, but for some reason this picture makes me think of our current team. It’s like, kinda similar to what a good team might look like but also, there are some issues…
92 is because the AI is haunted by the ghost of Balcer's potential.

Granlund was never worth a a 1st, that was always wishful thinking

If he isn't willing to take a 2-3 year deal at a reasonable cap hit you flip him for a 2nd at the deadline and walk away smiling, he's found money
I still have this totally unrealistic inkling (born from an unknown origin) that we'll trade him and Ceci to Dallas for NHL-ready prospect like Bourque. They have the cap room from Seguin to really abuse LTIR

Dallas makes sense as a destination for both guys but I would rather just get picks back.

Yeah it’s interesting that if both are worth 2nd would it be better to try and combine them to get a first from Dallas who has the space for both.

I am still hopeful Grier can give up a 3rd with Granlund and maybe Ceci to get a 1st back instead of a 2nd.

Maybe it helps since my expectations were SO low - but Vlasic was pretty decent tonight. He's gotta be in his best physical, emotional, and and mental state in years. From finalizing and getting through his divorce which likely played a HUGE mental toll - to finally having some time off after some deep playoffs runs ending in no cup along with some tanking seasons. He's cushed up on a nice contract, and he can just kinda go play with the new kids now.

Looking back at how Vlasic had a few years to learn from Blake back in 08-10, it'd be awesome to see our young D prospects learn from Vlasic in his (likely) final years in the league. Here's hoping he's doing well and can just go have fun out there (and not suck).

I actually was pretty cool with Vlasic being at practice, on the ice helping young guys. His body gave out, not his smarts or understanding of the game. He was like a bonus AC out there. AND if his head is back in a good spot that can only be a positive for the team.

Vlasic is back on the menu!

We probably shouldn't get too excited about the return of Vlasic, given that he's been god-awful for six years and only continues to get older.

Not really with them being opposite handed.

Vlasic puts pressure on both Ferraro and Thrun and likely pushes Muk to the Cuda when Walman returns with Thrun now needing waivers.
I meant as the experienced vet tutor.

It’s funny. We probably see him as worse than he is because he played with better talent in the past (except the last year or two). He’s probably our best d-man right now.

I don’t think Vlasic is a mentor to anyone, honestly. Isn’t it weird that he hasn’t ever gotten a letter on his jersey? I love everything he’s done for the franchise but he’s kind of a grumpy Frenchman and unless he’s changing as he gets older, I don’t really see him teaching anyone.

That said, he was uncharacteristically talky and smiley on the bench so maybe seeing his career flash before his eyes went a long way.

He actually was an Alternate Captain for 2 years in 2015 & 2016 before being quietly stripped of it

It should have been notable that he never wore an "A" again and the organization shifted toward Burns as the leader of the D core shortly thereafter

Oh wow, I forgot about that. That’s even worse.

Anyone else feel like Thrun seriously plays his best games when his lineup spot is threatened? Every time he gets a healthy scratch or a guy could potentially come in the lineup for him, he plays well. When he's complacent, he's awful. Not sure what to make of it... I want to avoid the lazy "entitled Harvard kid" narrative as much as necessary since I don't know him personally, but doesn't it kinda feel like that?

Devils GM is in San Jose, they want more depth scoring. Maybe the likes of a Luke Kunin? Kovalenko? Kostin? The piece they probably would be most interested in is Zetterlund and I honestly would consider it but I would want Nemec or Casey coming back at the very least

Kunin honestly could be a good option for them as a depth scorer. They mention Granlund in the article too, does NJ really need another top-6 C though?

Agreed on Zetterlund. No chance I move him unless Nemec or Casey is on the table. Not only is he a great hockey player, the right age for our timeline, and Eklund's bff, but he also genuinely seems like a big culture guy, and we need that.

I do wonder if reality set in for him during this injury time and he realized if he wanted any chance to have a respectable end to his career he needs to be a little more humble about his place.

A divorce and a career-threatening injury should surely make you think about your life and how you approach it. I hope he can find his game again because I genuinely think most of his issues are that he never accounted for his own aging with his fitness and generally thought he could just do what he’s done since he was 20 and continue to succeed. If he realizes he needs to work much harder now and does, I could see him revitalized a bit.

It’s not a coincidence that Karlsson’s best season with us was the one where he talked about being very focused on his off-season training.
