I assume they see Borgen as a competent 2nd pairing RD, only 28 as of tomorrow, and they liked him better than anyone we have available in that role.

There's no point in the Rangers not trying to rebound this season (which is why I've banged the "Fire Laviolette" drum for them the past month or so) with the way the roster is constructed. But one glaring hole has been at RD, especially after shipping Trouba out (though of course the intent was not just to get rid of him, but to get better in that role).

I imagine a big part of this is also hoping Miller can find chemistry with Borgen and that can become a long-term strong second pairing. There are still a lot of issues to fix or guys to get back on track, but this could do something for them.

It genuinely sucks that Couture can’t be a part of this new up and coming Sharks team. A healthy Couture would be SUCH an asset right now and it’s such a bummer that he had to be stuck playing on some of our worst teams and likely won’t get to be part of the future. Always thought he had it in him to be a great vet 3C or transition to wing and have a Pavelski-like career…

In my fan fic, Celebrini shocks the world and brings the team right up to the edge of but not quite over the hump of winning the cup... And then out of nowhere Couture shows up like Gandalf and the Rohirrim at Helm's Deep and is the x factor OP 3rd line center that pushes them over the edge and we see Couture pass the cup over to Mack in an on-the-nose symbolic gesture

Yeah, but that card only lasts as long as Drury is in the driver's seat... which might not be for all that much longer given the way these things have gone.

Yeah, that's the main problem with Borgen. Maybe the Rangers are seeing something promising under the hood? (Or, more likely, they're just getting really desperate.)

They employ Ryan Lindgren on purpose. I'm guessing they just like him because big and tuff. It is funny that they traded Trouba only to immediately acquire Trouba-lite.

If that's true then it's worse than losing out to Seattle for the trade. That's like having a gift card and not use it, and the store is about to go bankrupt any day now.

Maybe Grier doesn't like something about Kakko (which sucks because Grier took Goodrow ffs).
I must say I was surprised with how vocal Kakko was about his scratching - I understand his frustration, but you rarely hear it aired out like that.

May not be the kind of player Grier wants in the room.

EDIT: This trade is probably not the value Buffalo would want from Power, but the thought process is that they are really interested in Musty (born close to Buffalo, hometown boy) and value him as an 1st line winger. If they don't... this deal goes to the trash bin.

Musty has the size, the talent and the age. Still unproven, but they would (in this scenario) take the bet. Power has an 7-year deal with 8.35mil signed and they have Dahlin as the 1D already with Byram being probably a cheaper option as the future 2LD or even 2D.

If Sharks need to add value, they have picks and RD in Jack Thompson to sweeten the pot.
Yes this is probably helping the Sharks more, but we've seen crazier things happen.

Sure, Musty's stats in the OHL look good, but his move to the NHL is still in doubt. Buffalo won't do that.

There isn't a single defenseman in Buffalo worth trading for. Dahlin is the only one I'd even want on my team for free at this point, and I wouldn't pay even close to the price Buffalo would demand for him.

That's a good question to be honest. Maybe I'm just really really in a rush for the Sharks to find a trade equivalent to Askarov trade but with a defencemen for the Celebrini regime.
Not sure Power is that, but he could help. At least he was drafted at a position that he should be one of the better young ones out there.

Counter question, Is there a defencemen that's a good target for a trade?

If you're putting Musty on the table it should be for someone who makes you better now, Owen Power is nothing but draft pedigree at this point, he hasn't accomplished anything in the NHL as an individual and he certainly hasn't made his team better, he's also quite overpaid compared to his peers based on his actual on-ice impact
