I never realized we came out of the trade deadline with less picks than we did going in.

I know. I just found it funny,But with two new prospects, one who was a 1st last year, and an unprotected first next year. I absolutely did NOT expect that haul two days ago.
3rds, especially that far in the future, are meaningless.

well, i wouldn't say 3rds are meaningless, otherwise they wouldn't have been a dealbreaker for Vegas eitherBut with two new prospects, one who was a 1st last year, and an unprotected first next year. I absolutely did NOT expect that haul two days ago.

“Hertl said one of the first things he noticed when meeting his new Vegas teammates was how big the team is.“I’m used to being the tallest guy, but it seems everyone here is as tall or taller.”He said he thinks having a big, strong team is a big reason for success”
I found this interesting and spot on with the approach MG is taking to team building. Over the past almost 2 years since Grier has taken over, our prospect pool is bigger and stronger. Guys like Bords, Guschin, Eklund will be the exceptions.

It sort of amuses me that Grier has a seeming real distaste for everything DW did in the last years. Grier came in and was like… I must destroy it all.
The thing about 3rd round picks with the Sharks is just weird. There is a lot of other teams that know how to get value at that round, but Sharks seems to always be the one team that has no idea what to draft there. Maybe focus on all around BPA at that round, even without fully scouting the player? But with two new prospects, one who was a 1st last year, and an unprotected first next year. Also Sharks 3rd pick is around 65-67 area, so seems like an area that you could still find potential even if it's not going to be a gamechanger.
But more important than drafting is getting a new staff in Barracuda.
AHL team needs becomes a good place for our young players that have to go through there.
Doug probably sneered at him when they crossed paths and said something like, “Good luck, Anson”
Im sure he's thinking "I'm 0-2 on trying to win with Erik Karlsson, my teams stinks, and now I have to trade him. I hope I don't get sick"I sometimes wonder what Doug thinks about the Sharks from afar. Is he like, oh man I really f***ed them up, or is he like YOU CAN STILL MAKE A RUN YOU FOOLS

well like @karltonian mentioned somewhere, Sullivan has yet to realize he needs to build his system around Karlsson. Quinn realized itKarlsson has certainly not been a good omen for teams.
Don't forget that when Grier left the Sharks, he had polite-but-strong words for the bad culture in the locker room.It sort of amuses me that Grier has a seeming real distaste for everything DW did in the last years. Grier came in and was like… I must destroy it all.

True, that way the team still sucks but at least Karlsson can compile stats!well like @karltonian mentioned somewhere, Sullivan has yet to realize he needs to build his system around Karlsson. Quinn realized it
The problem in SJ wasn't when Karl was on the ice, it was when he was off the ice. Pens wouldn't have nearly as much trouble staying afloat with the talent they have, not to mention the vastly superior goaltendingTrue, that way the team still sucks but at least Karlsson can compile stats!

Think there is a time and place for those smaller guys, but they have to be more in the mold of Eklund where they are tough on the puck and play bigger than their measurables to workout. I think we see one of Gushchin or Bordeleau moved out this summer as part of a deal to bring in a young player that fits the Grier mold better.“Hertl said one of the first things he noticed when meeting his new Vegas teammates was how big the team is.“I’m used to being the tallest guy, but it seems everyone here is as tall or taller.”He said he thinks having a big, strong team is a big reason for success”

Let’s remember that Celebrini is still only 17 and Smith is 18. Entirely possible they are not finished growing yet.Think there is a time and place for those smaller guys, but they have to be more in the mold of Eklund where they are tough on the puck and play bigger than their measurables to workout. Prefer it to be a D-Man given how bad that group is and also because I think there could soon be a logjam in the forward group assuming we want to insulate the youngsters with some veteran presence (could have Celebrini, Smith, Eklund, and one of Bordeleau/Gushchin comprising almost half of the top 9 next year if lottery luck plays out). Given all of those guys are on the sub 6'0 side of the equation, doesn't leave a lot of spots to add the size and speed that Grier covets if they're all taking up top 9 roles.
I think ideally it's just Eklund, Smith, and Celebrini that you make the exceptions for as they're the most talented of the bunch. From there, I think you see if you can grab a D-prospect of similar value in a positional swap for a Bordeleau/Gushchin from a team needing more forward prospects.
