Speculation: 2023-24-25-26 Sharks Roster Discussion

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Xenforo Cloud is upgrading us to version 2.3.11 on Monday July 20, 2026 at 12:00 AM PST. Expect a temporary downtime during this process. More info here
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Huge 24 hours for Minnesota coming up. If I were a betting man, i think Guerin f***s it up and the wild fall apart this year.

The harsh/cynical view is:
  • They have no #1 centers or potentials in their system
  • They have two excellent and relied-upon Dmen in Hughes and Spurgeon coming up on UFA, one likely wanting the bag and the other probably heading to a steep decline at 36 already.
  • They have an overpaid goalie they don't trust and whose value they have hampered.
  • They are going to lose a bunch of top 9 wingers to UFA and are in position to have a weaker roster, but only have 9M in cap space to fill the gaps. Like;y 3 of that is going to another winger (Brink)
  • Prospect pool is weak, they have this and next year's firsts, but no seconds
Unless Guerin can work some magic, I think they're toast and there's a high chance Hughes hits the market.

I don’t see a world where, if he does, the Sharks get him. He’s gonna go play with his brothers not go across the country from them…

I wonder if Spurgeon would come to SJ…

GMMG has just gotta keep dodging bullets and drafting BPA while sniping falling prospects & reclamation projects... hell, even just sitting back and spamming BPA is probably enough at this point

i'm sure eventually he's gonna have to go big game hunting for role that just never lined up in the draft for them (big boi wrecking ball to nip any BS in the bud/all sitch D that pushes everyone else down a rung on the ladder of pressure), but until then, just let the engine run... the right player will be someone who WANTS to sign here and is not just willing to sign here

God I know it’s been said a thousand times but this UFA class is awful.
That's why I want Grier to get a Trouba trade done by tonight to avoid the market entirely. My fear is that Grier will wait until free agency like he was planning to do for Raddysh and miss out on Trouba because the Ducks traded him away before then.

But then he loses the 8th year.

True, and I think he's not likely to have much left 7 years from now. However, I think he might have gotten 7x$12M. I know that's insane but free assets with so much cap space is definitely of interest.

Sounds like Helly is on the move. FLA must be out based on the Markstrom deal. Wonder if the Jets were demanding Lundell, and Zito wouldn't do it.

Could be a three-way deal involving Nikishin? With Helly gone, WPG will have a good top line, and good LD.

The problem with Tuch maybe getting 12 is it may be with a team that's not competitive or he doesn't see a long term future with. Washington is the best of both worlds where he gets the same money as 7X12 (84 total) and plays in a place with a legit window.

At some point I expect Vegas is in on a goalie. They're either dumping Hill for peanuts (a team will take him) and grabbing Freddie or Bob or they're going bigger fish hunting while dangling Connelly and others.

Fair point on WSH being good, though not sure they are a cup threat (also didn't think Carolina could win, so mileage may vary).

I think it'd be nuts for someone to grab Hill, that contract is awful, but they do slither out of bad situations.

Trouba is not gettting traded. Free agency starts tomorrow. One day's worth of signing rights isn't worth anything.

I think Washington is gonna end up having another resurgence this season. The team is big and physical and not old. LT is as good as any goalie in the NHL not among the elite, the defense is still deep as hell and the additions of Kyrou and Tuch gives them a top 5 top 9 IMO with or without Ovi. If Cole is as good or near his brother's skill then he's a dark horse for Calder.

If Vegas retains 20% he'd still be an option for teams at 5 AAV. He's only 30.

Do we know that Grier had an interest in Raddysh?

Which forward are you pushing to the 4th line?
I'd play Graf with Wennberg and Sherwood, Lee with Misa and Cherny on his off wing, Smith/Celebrini/Sten on 1. Who cares about line 4 as they're all terrible options who shouldn't be getting more than 8 minutes a game. Goodrow/Delly/Goodrow/Gaudette/Toffoli can all take turns looking bad.
