I have only seen maybe two games from him, but Owen McLaughin keeps showing up on the UND highlights, making plays like this.

Rizzo with a three-point night. Goal and 2 assists.

I think McLaughin was a late round project where they knew they had four years (USHL, 3 college seasons) to watch him grow before making a decision.
6'0 161 when drafted, so a bet he'd fill out and maybe get faster as he grew up.

That is 100% their thought process. Kid has skill, but I am not sure if he has enough. Will be fun to watch him.

Bonk No.2 star in London's victory over division leader KItchener. Kid to watch is Sam O'Reilly on London. in 10 games 14 points and +13. Rematch is today. Ranked between 35-60, but the way he is playing as a rookie, he is going to rise.

When was the last time the Phantoms were even good? I legitimately cannot remember.

With Richards and Carter on the team, when they won a Calder?
Except the 17-18 season Curu mentioned, they've been pretty mediocre overall since the 05 Cup.

They made it to round 2 in 2008; that was when they played the longest ever AHL game for the first time (then they beat that record in 2018 iirc).

Got swept by Hershey in round 1 to close out the Spectrum in 2009.

Missed the playoffs all five years they were in Glens Falls.

And have only made the playoffs three times in 9 years (prior to this season) in Allentown. 2017 they also had a good year but lost in round 1 again to Hershey. There were no playoffs in 2020 but they were under .500 and well on their way to missing by the time the season was canceled. They were good in 2021 as well but that was the weird season where CHLers could play in the AHL and they only played WBS, Hershey, and Binghamton over the course of the entire season. They would've missed last year had the AHL not expanded the playoffs to include the qualifying round.

I will say I think the Flyers do a poor job of surrounding the young guys in Lehigh with good AHL talent. People on here bitch about it but you need those guys on your AHL team to supplement your prospects; every AHL team has them. But the Flyers seem to largely bring in middle-six/bottom four level guys with average at best offensive upside (Gardner, Mete) or guys who are well past their prime (COR). Marody is really the only AHL all-star level talent they've added the last couple years.

They've also basically only ever had two coaches since moving to Allentown in Gordon and Lappy (besides Terry Murray the first year). Gordon actually did pretty well overall whereas Lappy has done as well as you'd expect him to do.

Has Adam Brooks been injured or is there a reason he's not scoring for the Phantoms? Remember him being highly regarded out of juniors. And he was one of the better scorers for the Phantoms last season.

Brooks has been injured most of the season.
I think Lappy is on thin ice, who is left in the organization who'd fight for him?
Briere probably just hasn't got around to shaking up LHV, other priorities his first year.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen the Flyers attempt to use the bumper position on the PP since 2017. But they haven't had a talent like Bonk either.

He has another 4 point night so far. He’s got like 26 points in his last 10 or something like that. Don’t care who you are or how awesome your team is that is a torrid pace, and it’s been going for a while.

Agreed. There’s a point where you throw all context out the window. We’re at that point.

What’s even better is, as you pointed in the last post, against the leading Kitchener, he only had an assist and still got a second star.

Means there is other facets developing as well.

Here’s hoping it continues.

Rizzo with 4 apples. The last one was nice. I get a bit concerned most of his points are on the man advantage…. Sick goal from Z. Buium in there as well. Wouldn’t mind drafting him somehow.

Denver plays UND (Owen McLaughlin) on CBS Sports network next Friday.

So you're telling me he is actually good at PP? Sign this man right now!
