Bednar at the beginning of the season said that they would give Newhook an extended look at 2C. That didn't happen. He also never tried eRod there, who I think would have been a better choice.
He tried erod there for a little.… wasn’t very good. Compher was the only option for 2C last year. That’s what bednar was given by the FO, he was the best option. Doesn’t mean it was a good one though.

Rants, Newhook, ERod, and Compher all had runs at center. Compher was the one who stuck. Arguably Rants was the best, but it really seems there isn't a desire to keep him at center. Which direction that comes from is unknown, but at this point, best to assume Rants will never play center full time.

Wow Boston gets off easy getting rid of a lot of salary and it didn't cost them anything.

I'm not impressed with this chicago GM seems like a real frikkin' moron

Why? It's really smart business by them. You need to surround Bedard with at least some veterans, and Taylor Hall playing beside him, at 50% on trade deadline could fetch additional assets.

Huh? Where’s the issue in adding vet players with little term and one in Hall who could potentially bring back
decent assets in future TDL’s.

Pretty clear Hall is staying in Chicago to mentor Bedard, but man, would love to see him in Denver.

Hawks won’t do it, but Hall 50% for the Avs 1st and Newhook? Maybe getting a 2nd or 3rd back from Chicago.

Then sign Compher. Set at forward.

So 3 M retention is now worth a 1st and Newhook?

Things can always change (and decent chance they will as the list shrinks to 10 teams July 1), but the Avs have been on Hall's NTC.

To a team that wants the player and is not cap crunched, yeah.

Hall at 3 mill for 2 years is a steal.
Just seems very steep considering he was free @6M.

It’s only 3M retention. And next season is likely to see a boost to the cap

Good move for both sides. Bruins offload cap without giving up anything to do so and the Hawks get Hall to help insulate Bedard and can trade him later if they choose for more assets .

I don't recall eRod ever getting a chance as the 2C last season? But my memory is shit. During that stint, did he have Mikko as his winger?

Yeah, I’d be all over Wilson. The top-6 would be absolutely nasty with him in it.

Nichushkin - MacK - Wilson
Lehkonen - RyJo - Rantanen

It was at the very beginning of the season. He centered Nuke and Mikko and Nuke and Compher if I remember correctly.
