After signing Byram, how much do we have left to spend? How much after signing guys to the minimum? Do we have room for like one or two guys at two million?

We made our predraft trade. Hopefully a sign of things to come. I think Cmac and company are going to be pretty aggresive this offseason.

There's basically 15.5m for 6F and 2D (including Byram). Say Byram takes 4.5m, that's 11m for the ~7 spots. Newhook should be around $2m. So ~9m for 5F and 1D. So maybe a $2m guy or two, but rest need to be around a mil.

Hard to say without know how much Byram is gonna get. And Newhook for that matter since I would say todays deal makes it far more likely he sticks around.

If we go on the high end for both guys, I think that looks like $4.5M for Byram and $2.5M for Newhook. Then we'd have about $8M left. On the super low end for both guys, which IMO is probably $3M for Byram and $1.5M for Newhook, they would still have $10.5M in space. If you mean in the middle, about $9.25M in space.

And they would still need to sign at least one more RD, 2 more 3rd liners, a 4th liner, and a Top 6 winger. If you get a 4th line guy for a league minimum deal and the RD for $1M, they could have anywhere from ~$6M-$9M for the remaining 3 roster spots.

We need some action, as much as Canadian geographic battles are interesting , I’d rather discuss trades or player movement

I keep getting this feeling one of Kakko or lafrenière will end up here …..
So weird - I've had that feeling too for the past 2-3 weeks but don't see how we have anything that would really match up with what the Rangers would want.
I did bring up the idea of trading for RyJo over the last year or so as a buy low candidate. This will be interesting. Playoff RyJo is typically quite a good player so I do like the potential upside here.
There's 'buy-low' and then there's what we paid. My God, we only gave up Nuke's pimp - he was frikkin' free at $4M per.... that's crazy.

@Bender pretty much what I expect from the deal from a few pages ago.
I wanted to also respond to your 'all you Ryjo haters post' as well but only got this one somehow.

Anyways, here is my response to both : If anyone had suggested that we could get a player like Ryjo for $4M per year for the next two years AND give up an AHLer to do it, I don't think you'd get ANY haters around here. [well, any that actually count ;)] The $8M cap hit was always an issue when discussing Ryjo so hopefully slotted in below where he was in Nashville & Columbus will rejuvenate him a bit.

Always figured that to trade for him at 50% reduced, would require a substantial return to send the other way.

Sharangovich was a 5th round pick who had 13 goals and 17 assists last year. Are we overvaluing him a bit, maybe?
I mean Bura was a 2nd and a 3rd and coming off worse seasons than Govic. Dudes basically a guaranteed 20 goals with potential to add a few more and pop in 20-25 assists.

Tbf RyJo now isn't a surefire 2C. I mean he paced for what 40pts last year? Obviously plenty of upside but there's a reason he cost nothing.

Depends on what byram signs for. Avs are sitting on 15.5M with Byram, 2W, 3C, 3LW, 3RW, 4C, 6D, left to sign.

Newhook could be one of those W spots. And Franky could be moved to be replaced by annunen making an extra 1M in cap.

Oh I think it is a solid risk to take. Just shows the Avs don't want to commit to guys and the 2-3 year option was the most preferable to them. Now they'll get the Newhook insurance policy on the 4th line and roll with Newhook as the 3 with the hope he'll take over for RyJo at the end.

Nah, its basically the same as the Burakovsky deal. The year before he scored 24 goals and 46 points in 76 games. And the year before that was on similar pace in the covid shortened season.

Bit of a down year this year but that will help keep his contract down in the high 2s or low 3s which is also an appealing number.

He also had 24 goals the previous year. He doesn't get much PP time, so his production is primarily 5v5. He's a fantastic middle 6 winger who can also be a top unit PK option.

But newhook sucks at center.

So it’s a certainty he’s how they address 2C? There’s no chance they might still be in on Lindolm/PLD/Backlund?
