Just listening to Avs pods. Also when Avs make big moves, they usually make them early in the offseason. I think they would make it before the draftWhat on earth gives you that impression.

Avs have made most of their big moves between the day before the draft and on July 1 (or first day of free agency with these weird past couple of years).Just listening to Avs pods. Well draft is in 6 days, I guess something could happen, and Avs are usually quiet before making trades and stuff. Just wondering what the plan is for a team that needs some decent size changesAvs have made most of their big moves between the day before the draft and on July 1 (or first day of free agency with these weird past couple of years).
I just don’t get the sense that they gonna trade Girard. Of course my senses mean nothing, but just what I’m feelingIIRC, Barrie was traded the evening of UFA day when we all thought the Avs missed out again on aquiring a 2C. That Girard is still around today really doesn't mean much.
Which is insanely weird given the team is run by a guy who had the most success of his career running 1/2 with Forsberg down the middle and Ricci/Yelle behind them.IMO the Avs clearly don't value centers as highly as we do around here, and certainly not as much as the league does. If they did, they'd have devoted more cap space to the position and made bigger moves over the years. That doesn't mean they won't address the 2C (or 3C) vacancy, but they haven't shown signs that it is a huge priority either.
They do value it. They won 3 cups being strong down the middle. Every team winning the cup needs to be strong down the middle. They wouldn’t win it last year without Naz. The salary cap just preventing the Avs to get a 2C and sign for long term.IMO the Avs clearly don't value centers as highly as we do around here, and certainly not as much as the league does. Lol what..A Dubois extension could be done if they decide to not keep Toews. But you're almost guauranteed to be kissing Mikko goodbye next summer (honestly, we should be preparing ourselves for that anyway).
Landy being on LTIR all year opens up all kinds of one-year possibilities and allows them to push hard decisions down the road to next summer. AKA Toews walks for nothing.
Bottom 6 depthMaybe, just maybe, the Avs FO doesn't think the 2C hole is as big a problem as us fans do...
Since Stastny left in 2014, the Avs have been declining in center quality overall. There are spurts up, but they don't tend to spend a lot of money at the position and they don't tend to make moves to fill the position until it is a clear eyesore. The only quality #2C they have brought into the organization since 2014 has been Kadri. They've done moves like Soda as a middle 6 guy, drafted guys like Jost/Newhook, and gotten prospects like Compher and Kerfoot... they have not actually brought in that many #2Cs. You could make the same argument for 3Cs... they went the path of the young guys to fill the role and Soda (who was miscast as a 2C here). The rest have been partial fixes at best... Nameste, Eller, Brassard, etc. They do value it. They won 3 cups being strong down the middle. Every team winning the cup needs to be strong down the middle. The implication here is Rants is going to price himself off the team and get traded. I don't think he'll get traded, but he's gonna watch the new big contracts come in at 13-14m and want his cut. His next AAV is at least 12 and could be 13-13.5.Lol what..

Toews (who might leave in a year) Girard Byram Manson. That Avs team failed in my books they should have won more than 2 Cups honestly
Petterson would give us that 1/ 2 punch with Laughton at 3 C but it would take Makar and no one is willing to even discuss that and I get it.
Grain of salt and all, but this makes sense. Enjoy Anacrime EJ!
Rantanen at C. Solves two problems.Pretty much what Hench said but I think they end up trading him. He's already priced himself out IMO, and he's a pending UFA next summer. Crazy how fast 5 year contracts go by.
The Avs can't keep everyone. Paying 13+ AAV for a winger while the team continues to get cratered without a proper 2C would be a moronic decision.
IMO keeping Toews is the death nail on keeping Rantanen. Unfortunately, I 100% expect them to keep Toews.
That too, but main reason is that they can't just ignore the salary cap or player availability.Maybe, just maybe, the Avs FO doesn't think the 2C hole is as big a problem as us fans do...
Here's Baugh with confirmation (although I already believed Kaplan).
I would say that I'm sure the Avs would bring him back if his market doesn't develop and they can get him for somewhere between 1-2M max, and for only 1 year, but I'm pretty sure he'll have multi-year offers for at least 2M, and likely more.
I think he can net a 3 year deal for anywhere from 3.5-4.5M AAV
MacK to the locker room:Hope Cogliano is healthy enough to play another season. Landeskog, Cogs and to a lesser degree, EJ are the only guys in that room who can pull Mackinnon back to centre.
