Would we be able to resign pesce?
Maybe, but I wouldn't. He's gonna be 29 in November and would be 30 for his next contract pretty much.

Just like Manson, he isn't as good as he was 2-3 years ago and likely won't age very well either.

If you could do a Manson/Pesce swap you basically are getting out of a bad contract, no need to turn around and sign another.

But I highly doubt the Canes would make that trade unless they're that concerned about Pesce not signing and want a Dman with term to replace him. I also doubt Manson would approve the trade.

Manson has a full NTC... you're dreaming if you think he's getting moved. Beyond that he has negative value. 3 years left at 4.5m per with trade protections for a regressing and oft injured defensemen. He might have value in the final year of his deal around the deadline if he's playing well and is healthy. That's about all though.

Pesce would be an awesome get for a couple to few seasons... but you end up in the same spot if you re-sign him. A defensemen that is >30 as a bigger defensive type and getting paid market value (will be mid to high 5s) with term on the years he is regressing heavily. Pesce has not hit that wall yet and my not for a couple years, but it is coming and coming hard. When he's 32/33 the team he's on will hate that contact.

How about adding to Manson to get poolparty and pesce?

We should absolutely stay away from pizza boy... arbitration, qualifying offer, and he just flat out sucks.

the Avs aren’t trading Manson. They want to contend and it’s foolish to jump to the conclusion that he can’t be a huge part of this blue line before seeing how he looks when healthy.

He’s the exact type of defenseman every contender wants to add to their blue line and he was so good in the playoffs last year.

He's never going to be fully healthy unless he changes the way he plays or gets significantly limited in minutes. His playstyle is too rough and he's too willing to take hits. Since the 19-20 season, Manson has missed 124 games or 43% of all the games played. This is a guy that has had injuries all over from concussions to knee to shoulder to ankle to finger to oblique... it isn't like him having injury issues is new at all. This has been going on for 4-5 seasons now and is a part of his regression. The beating he could take earlier, just can't be taken today.

You're not wrong but he got hit by the puck last year. This is pure bad luck and could happen to any dman...it's not related to his style of play.

And this board has been spanking over for 20 years.

He hurt his oblique in a scuffle. His finger was broken when he was checked. You can say freak injuries in each of them... but part of his position is blocking shots, taking hits, and being physical... naturally these defensemen tend to have injuries as they age.

I agree. If anything I actually would love to see him finesse his way through a regular season by avoiding contact lol just to be able to go full Manson in the playoffs. Only thing with Manson is that if he doesn’t play the way he plays, he’s not very effective. It’s not like he has great feet or puck skill.

In his younger days, his feet were actually good enough to avoid some of the worst hits or at least have him prepared... his puck skills were good enough to not get pinned as often. Both of those taking a step back means he's taking more punishment on an aging body.

I totally agree that he's not real effective if he doesn't play his style. If the Avs could manage it, I'd prefer the load managed his work. Don't let him play the full amount of game, down the stretch he plays pretty rarely (except maybe a 5-7 game stretch to get fully into game shape at the end) so he can be fully healthy when the playoffs rolled around.

Why would Toronto buyout TJ Brodie? They really need him.
They can get a full $5m of cap relief this year in exchange for 2.5m cap hit in 24-25.
