I've got questions for you.

Did you ever wonder why he was a healthy scratch in the playoffs in Vegas in 2018 (when they reached the cup finals)?

Why he was a healthy scratch in Montreal in 2021 (when they also reached the cup finals)?

And why he got healthy scratched in the playoffs in NJ as well?

Do you want to win the cup or you want "scoring punch" in the regular season?

Not that I disagree with your point, but Tatar wasn't healthy scratched in the playoffs by the Devils.

Miles Wood on the other hand...

I really want a PK player but if the Avs can get a real middle six player and a PK player they can just bury a couple losers in the minors.

Difference is Vegas played unbelievable hockey in front of Adin Hill, whereas Los Angeles isn't exactly stifling teams anymore - especially on the PK.

Vegas was doing anything and everything to block shots, disrupt offense and insulate Hill. Now that he's their regular guy next season I honestly believe they will be in tough to fight for a wildcard spot because he is not good.

LA keeps ignoring the goaltending position thinking their team is good enough. It is not. Not good enough to mask their trash goaltending.

I do agree with you, if LA can't tighten up. They won't be as much of threat as I'm thinking.

We need to see this through, make sure it happens….

Has anyone seen @Ceremony?

If we gave league minimum+bonuses (games played, points total) to Zadina, would those bonuses be worth it?

As like a last option for the 3RW maybe..

No bonuses though, cheap one year deal. I've seen him enough, and spent enough time rooting for him to take a step. Not a player I'm willing to bet on personally.

Watch the Avs be done with free agency (except for Cotton) and HFAvs discuss potential moves for weeks.

The only real spots left available are 3RW, 4C, and 3RD.

I thought it was interesting that in addition to Meyers and Malinski who I could both see making the starting roster out of camp, he also mentioned Olausson as guys that will be given more of an opportunity to make the team in camp, and guys they need to have an impact on the team with their cheap AAV's.

If the Avs are operating like they normally do, they have targets in mind for those available roles if they come on the right deals, but they won't sign deals they don't like, and could just start the season with internal options and then re-evaluate later.

So they actually may end up being done with Olausson, Meyers, and Malinski taking the remaining 3RW, 4C, and 3RD roles, with MacDermid as the 13F/7D.

Literally happened at the last deadline. They even got the Caps to retain on Eller.

Avs entered the playoffs with like 4M in cap space.

Things were still pretty tight at the deadline and at the end of last year. That's why they needed retention on deals.

Cap Friendly has the Avs final cap hit last year at $83,951,191, with $1,593,914 spent on LTIR, and $142,723 in final cap space. "Final cap space" probably not being a technically accurate term, because you have to spend to the cap to get LTIR relief. Their projected cap hit on March 2nd, the day before the trade deadline was $83,519,366. The cap last year was $82.5M.

They also have $637,500 in bonus overages this year from last season, which I assume is why CMac said the $7M number he's seen that they have available to spend right now isn't quite accurate.

I can see them possibly not spending all of Landy's $7M in LTIR though, because the team has shown a willingness to spend to the cap when competitive, but haven't really shown a willingness to spend as much as they can get away with over the cap like other teams with buyouts and LTIR moves.

Maybe this year is different though knowing they don't have Gabe all year and need to add good players to replenish their depth.

Those last four names made me barf. If it's their plan we are f***ed.

Did he say Olausson? I thought he said Olofsson.

Yeah definitely said Olausson. I just listened to it again. He was also referring to them as young players. Olofsson's 27.

"This year there will probably be some more of an opportunity for young guys at camp, the Ben Meyers, the Olausson's, the Malinski's of the world to come in and make a statement at camp. We're gonna need guys like that and their AAV's to make a dent into our roster here at some point in the next few years."

Sentence starts around the 29:35 mark of the Hour 2 broadcast below.

Not sure if he’s been mentioned yet but I think Tomas Nosek could make a solid 4C us. Prefer him to Meyers. There’d still be a hole at 3RW but that’s something that can be filled during year or at deadline. Would also prefer someone pushes Jack Johnson out of lineup cause he’s currently their #6 at the moment. Here’s hoping Malinski is ready.

Edit: Just remembered that Kovalenko could possibly take that 3RW spot depending on when his year ends.

Nosek+Foote, throw Polin or Pavel at 3rw

Man Zadina is going to be such a good bet for some team. He screams Carolina, because they always seem to make the savvy moves. He’d be a perfect flyer to take since we have an open spot in the top-6 imo.

Seems like the kind of player that could score 20 in the right situation next year. Just needs to finish.
