No way. He definitely was talking to an empty chair then ran around his desk and sat in it to answer questions.

It's Sunday afternoon and newly hired President Dubas is lost in thought. His feet up on the desk, he stares out the window of his giant new plush office. Suddenly.....he stands up. He extends his right arm forward....then his left arm forward...then suddenly the two hands clasp together in a firm handshake.

President Dubas: "I've heard a lot about you young man. So tell me, why should I hire you?"
*runs around desk to sit in empty chair*

GM Dubas: "Because I'm the best."
*runs back to sit in chair behind desk*

President Dubas: "I knew you were the best. That's what everyone's been saying."
*runs around desk again to sit in empty chair*

GM Dubas: "They're right. They usually are when they're calling me the best."
*runs back around desk*

President Dubas: "Did you happen to bring your resume? I'd like to see what you've accomplished?"
*runs back to empty chair*

GM Dubas: "I don't believe in resumes and I don't believe in looking backward. I only look forward. That's why I'm the best."
*runs back behind desk*

President Dubas: "I knew it. That's something only the best would say."
*runs back to empty chair*

GM Dubas: "Don't just take my word for it. Ask this guy..."
*points to empty seat next to him, then jumps up and sits in empty seat*

Reporter Dubas: "It's true, he really is the best. I've written 367 articles saying he's the best."
*runs back behind desk*

President Dubas: "Hmmmm you two make a compelling case. Let me see what they're saying online."
*logs into Dubas Simp Account #40385 and starts typing

Dubas Simp Account #40385: "Kyle Dubas is the best. Everyone's been saying it, but it really is true."
*logs out of Dubas Simp Account #40385 and into Dubas Simp Account #38519*

Dubas Simp Account #38519: "Yeah I agree. He just did a thing (took a breath through his nose) and it was the best anyone's ever done that thing."
*logs out of Dubas Simp Account #38519 and into Dubas Simp Account #50173

Dubas Simp Account #50173: "Might have been the best anyone's ever done anything before."
President Dubas: "Wow you're really trending online! Everyone's talking about you being the best!"
*runs around desk to sit in empty chair*

GM Dubas: "Yeah I did a thing and it was the best anyone's ever done a thing before."
*runs back to sit in chair behind desk*

President Dubas: "I have one last question for you. If you can tell me a fact about yourself that I'm not aware of, I'll hire you right now as General Manager."
*jumps out of seat again*

GM Dubas: ..........
iu

Still wearing his crown, President Dubas pulls up the press release he wrote from his final days in Toronto. It states he has been hired as Team President of the Maple Leafs. He replaces "Maple Leafs" with "Penguins" and changes "President" to "General Manger."

Dubas leans back in his chair, and nods to himself, very satisfied with how things went. He kicks his feet up on his desk again and goes back to staring out the window. Only the best can get this much done on a Sunday.

The same Pius Suter who had a whopping 24 points last year? For 1.6 mil a year?

What am I missing here? Guys are complaining about him not signing here?

I'd rather have LOC as a 3rd line wing for 800k less per year.

This place is absolutely insane.

Suter signs in Vancouver...

Tatar and ZAR might be the only 2 UFAs left that could make an actual impact for us.

Gotta say we're in pretty rough shape if we actually go into the season with all of:

- Drouin on Line 1
- LOC on Line 3
- Meyers as 4C
- Olofsson as 4W

That's honestly so bad.

Vegas has Paul Cotter, Brett Howden and Mike Amadio slotted in as top 9 forwards. They combined for 35 goals last year.

It's the life of a salary cap league.

We are also loaded with elite top end players. Mackinnon, Rantanen, Makar, Toews, Byram, Nichushkin and great role players like Johansen,Lehkonen, Wood, Colton and Cogliano. If Drouin comes to play he will be the steal of the league.

Drouin- Mackinnon- Nichushkin
Lehkonen- Johansen- Rantanen
Wood- Colton- O'Connor

Our top 9 can compete with anyone and our depth on D will take games over. I'm not one bit concerned about a 4th line that will play 6 minutes a game.

That said a 4th line of

Olofsson- Meyers- Cogliano

Will be awfully hard to play against. That's a forechecking menace of a line.

Everyone also forgets the Avs tend to have more injuries than other teams too and the cost of those callups for players that don't go on LTIR.

Even though they all had a sub $1M AAV, the combined prorated cap hit last year of the depth players listed below (not including JJ and Nieto) was $3,258,532.

If you add JJ and Nieto, who were basically upgraded versions of the depth callups, the combined cap hit from all these guys was $3,853,126.

The Avs can't afford to spend all their LTIR space before the season or they'll be screwed.

Calling our 4th line hard to play against and a forechecking menace of a line is just hilarious quite frankly. That's one of the worst 4th lines in the league and teams will absolutely dominate against them.

This feels like a reach from AJ. There's probably 30 other teams with a couple league minimum players you could just swap into this sentence and say the same thing.

Avs have limited cap space and need depth. They needed to utilize league minimum players so they could get two for the price of one. Not to mention save money for injury callups and Kovalenko.

If they signed one player with the money they could have used on two, fans would be complaining even more about the depth. They're damned if they do damned if they don't.

GM said, I believe multiple times recently, that they were counting on young guys to step up. Mentioned OO, Foudy, Meyers and Malinski. Why state that the team was counting on young players to step up then go out and fill positions that those players would be fighting for? It’s obviously a good idea to have competition in camp but its hasty to sign a couple of low end players to multi-year deals before seeing if potential in house players could get you the same productively at much lower salaries. It’s not just about this season either, unless we get one year rentals (easier to get closer to start of season), most players are still getting 2+ year deals which would further reduce opportunities for in house players and further restrict cap flexibility.

Ignoring the fact you're literally just pulling shit out of your ass as per usual...

The 4th line will play a whopping 5 minutes a night. Instead of bitching constantly maybe chime in and tell us what you would have done with all our cap space. Every single team in the league has a 4th line with league min players.

As for ours...ask Dallas fans what they think of Olofsson. He is a forechecking machine. And Cogliano is one of the better 4th liners in the league. Every team needs respected vets like him. Throw on Kovalenko who has promise and I dont see the problem. Regardless, there is nothing we could have done because we have no cap space.

Take a look for yourself:

Trade Girard for the best 4th line player in NHL Nic Dowd

Because it's f***ing terrible lol...

Which means our Star players get rode into the ground again and get injured or run out of gas by the playoffs. Great strategy!

They don't even need cap space(Ignroing the fact we still have over $2M today anyway). They could have easily signed 4th liners for league minimum that are significantly better than two AHL players lol.

Only 1/3 of those player will play in Vegas Top 9... Probably Ammadio who was better then our entire 3rd line last year anyway lol.

Barbashev - Eichel - Stone
Karlsson - Smith - Marchessault
Dorofeyev - Roy - Ammadio

That will be Vegas' Top 9 next year. Clearly deeper then ours. Our depth is a disaster right now, if they don't sign anyone else... It's legit bottom 10 in the league bad.

Signing Tatar would make a huge difference, signing a guy like ZAR or Motte would make a small difference, so we'll see if they do anything else. If they don't, flat our this is a worse roster then last year even if the new big risk additions all work out reasonably well.

Yeah our bottom six had several stretches last year where they couldn't score to save their lives.. including the playoffs. That can't happen again

Yep and as of right now its going to happen again. That 4th line is so terrible today. They're going to get abused big time.

Our 3rd line, at full health, is decent enough. Although you really want LOC on the 4th line at full health, but they're not terrible by any means as long as Wood bounce back(If he doesn't that's even more trouble moving forward).... Its our 4th line where we get absolutely killed compared to other playoff teams. Meyers and Olofsson aren't NHL caliber anymore, Cogliano is old and was barely replacement level last year. They would get absolutely crushed against a team like Vegas who can roll out big, 25-35 point 4th liners against them.

Ultimately the difference between a good and a bad 4th line in the regular season is probably only ~3-4 wins realistically, but that's the difference between home ice advantage or not in the 1st round for this team. And in the playoffs is where the depth matters even more.

I can get on board with a ZAR signing but getting 20 points from him would be asking a lot. However that still doesn’t fix our LOC on the 3rd line problem.
