Suter signs in Vancouver...

Tatar and ZAR might be the only 2 UFAs left that could make an actual impact for us.

Gotta say we're in pretty rough shape if we actually go into the season with all of:

- Drouin on Line 1
- LOC on Line 3
- Meyers as 4C
- Olofsson as 4W

That's honestly so bad.

I don't think we're that doomed, but a top 9 winger would make this team a lot better on paper. Push LOC to 4th line and we look so much better.

No chance the Avs would’ve been interested at that price. Waiting till the deadline for better players with retention might be the play at this point.

That's pretty cheap for what he provides... the waiting until the deadline has a real opportunity of wearing out the top guys and exposing them to more injuries like last year.

That’s my gripe with playing the waiting game. You run the risk of not only wearing out your top guys vying for playoff positioning but you also risk getting into bidding wars and coming away empty handed. It’s not my preferred option.

Would you have given that deal to Suter at that price?

Would you have given that deal to Suter at that price? It would really handcuff their ability of making any more moves.
Yeah I absolutely would pay him 1.6m. He'd give a backup to a 3C spot and can play on the wing in the top 9 too. Not a perfect player, but easily worth that amount.

I don't think it would drastically change anything for the Avs. They aren't going to accrue this year and practically, deals are money in and money out deals. At worst, maybe they'd have to waive a guy like Olofsson, Dermy, or Meyers... it just doesn't make a huge difference in the flexibility this year with the lack of accrual and no bonus risk.

Yeah I guess right now I’m thinking some better options may become available throughout the season but I can see a scenario where in hindsight I’d rather the Avs would’ve given him this contract instead.

Tatar will sign here on the cheap. Avs are waiting him out.
Likely going to Pittsburgh, they were waiting for the cap relief from the EK trade.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman suggested that the Penguins are eyeing the possibility of acquiring forward Tomas Tatar

Would've been over the moon if Colorado signed Suter to that deal.

But I still see a number of names out there I like. The Avalanche could really use another PK forward after losing Compher/Eller/Nieto and bringing in four new forwards who didn't PK at all last season.

I've also learned how valuable 20 points can be in the NHL, thanks to sitting through dozens of games of Blidh, Hunt, Kaut, etc. putting up zeros on the score sheet.

I agree, one top 9 winger solves a lot of issues.

For example Tatar... You get him, LOC is no longer a 3rd line guy but a 4thine guy, and then Olofsson is 13th forward instead of 4th line winger.

A top 9 forward would solve 2/4 of our forward depth issues IMO and also the 2 biggest issues I have with the forwards.

That being said, at least in UFA Tatar is literally it. If we don't sign him that's pretty much it. So they need to sign him, lol.

You'll get Jay O'Brien and be happy.

I agree, I feel like that would have been a no-brainer for the Avs.

Suter would have been a good pickup. I still don’t know why the Aves are being so passive to fix the bottom 6. Same shit last year

Juhjar khaira anyone?

If we sign poolparty, I'd like it to be a cheap 2 year in case something clicks after his injury recovery.

After the Wood and Colton acquisitions, I don't exactly think I'd call them passive. But signing Suter would have also helped.
