Starting to get the same vibes as last year. The team needs work if they want to lift the cup and must have a big deadline to make it possible.

It's a complete mystery if they even want to spend this deadline, probably not based on past seasons.
Probably need sometime to see if Drouin can rebound, Lando has a shot at returning, they can get Kovalenko over and any of the prospects can make the jump.

Yikes
Cuck Fletcher:

Out:
Gostisbehere
Hagg
1st 2021 (14th overall)
2nd 2022
4th 2022
7th 2022
7th 2022
2nd 2023
3rd 2023
2nd 2024

In:
Ristolainen (extended for 5 years, $5.1 AAV)
DeAngelo (extended for 2 years, $5.0 AAV, bought out after one year by Briere)
7th 2022

The Ristolainen trade and extension is a classic example of a GM who thinks that the player is the same as he was 3-4 years prior. Like the GM is making decisions based on 3 year old scouting reports.

That's what I was kind of afraid of with the Avs and Wood (to a lesser degree, of course).

Maybe that app that Fletcher was using at the trade deadline to help him decide trade values told him to go for Ristolainen?

Wild stuff when it came out...

The one area where I'm not concerned about is the Avs ability to scout at the pro level. We've heard about multiple guys that theyve wanted over the years (like Kulikov), and they haven't made those moves. There's no doubt they monitor progress and at minimum, take a cursory look at their analytics to make sure cap is properly spent.

He still sucked 3-4 years ago too. But that's not surprising, Chuck Fletcher never should've been allowed near an NHL front office again after he dealt then-prospect (not to mention native Minnesotan) Nick Leddy for Cam f***ing Barker.

I wouldnt hate it, Kuzy, 24 Wash 1st (top 3 protected, Avs 25 2nd rounder back for Girard. Take the full hit or maybe just $1M retained on Kuzy, pick up assets for Girard as part of a hockey trade. Washington is stacked on their right side D and could use a guy like G to stabilize the left side.

No thanks. He is getting paid close to 8 mil and is coming off a 55 point season.....unless Wash wants to eat half his salary

This is peak stat whacker. They didn't just rely on analytics to bring in DeAngelo and Risto, they had their analytics guy make an app for them to determine whether the trade was fair value or not.

Somehow their stat whacker app said that a 1st (14th overall) two 2nd's, a 3rd, and a 4th for Risto and whacko DeAngelo was fair value. Then they gave them $5M and $5.1M. Then they bought out DeAngelo and are stuck with Risto.

.....and scene.

it’s not even a consideration.

The Avs most likely explored going with one of these guys. RyJo, Kuznetsov, Hayes and picked the one they were most comfortable with regards to cost/quality

Yeah, we could do G in a separate trade but would need to unload him to fit in Kuzy even if we get him in a similar grain to RyJo.

"I will end your bloodline," the suspect allegedly told Scottsdale police."One phone call and you're dead."

Not the kind of shit you want to hear from a Russian millionaire.

We talked about it in the Nuke thread but in the 90's the Russian Mafia was very close to some (all?) Russian NHL players. Hopefully that's not the case anymore.

It’s a super messed up thing for someone to say. Pretty sure he’s an American of Belarusian descent though not Russian
