Do people really think Bussi is ready for that?
:sarcasm:
Well, I don't think he'd rotate goalies if the Bussi was the second one. But if he has last year's Vezina winner and (if Swayman keeps it up) this year's Vezina winner both on the team at the same time, then that may be worth trying something that's never been done.

I would still trade Ullmark for a forward, but I sure do appreciate Monty's willingness to be different. He's been doing it all year with the rookies. Good for him.

"Per Boston Hockey Now’s Jimmy Murphy, an NHL source told him that he thinks that “Sweeney’s in on Zadorov.” That same source also noted that they “know for a fact Sweeney’s looked into him before.” Now that Zadorov wants out of Calgary, it certainly would be a good time for the Bruins to make a push for him."

Honest question, when a guy goes on the trade market has Murphy ever NOT put out an article saying the bruins are interested? Feel like he has a "source" that says the bruins are interested in literally every single player that is made available. Sports journalism seems like the easiest job in the world.
True.

I don't mind reading those hypotheticals.

There's plenty of good stuff out there. Just got to do a little digging.

Don't have to go far. The GDT's are filled with guys upset over the Bruins not retaliating, or not initiating or 'getting bent over.'

There are multiple posts in this thread (including the post that started this conversation) where people are calling for the Bruins to have 4 or 5 scrums against Buffalo for legal hits where nobody got hurt. In the Buffalo GDT Fire Sweeney is lobbying for the Bruins to play their bottom6 the "rest of the way and goon it up." You yourself called someone "f***ing petty" and "obnoxious" for arguing with you, but it was deleted. The Bruins blew out Buffalo and 3 days later people are still complaining about not 'retaliating' multiple times.

That to me, is hysteria.

I agree the GDT can get a little hyperbolic, which is why I typically stay out of them. However, using Fire Sweeney as a general example of that hyperbole is not helping your cause.

I see - you've got a strange, strange definition of hysteria, dude. You do you, though.

IMO, this team still needs a top6 forward.

I think their record is masking that fact. We all know our goalies have been the MVP's but it's more than that. We're 20th in the league in shot attempts for/against. That means we generally get outplayed. Letting goalies steal games is fine during the regular season, but what happens in the playoffs when the other goalies are just as hot? Now you're getting outplayed and your biggest advantage has been neutralized.

They need 1 more guy to make the top6 work.

I said it would be nice to see the Bruins take a number and give it back, especially when the game was out of reach and the Sabres were still running around. I also never said the hits weren't clean.

I wasn't a fan of Pastrnak dangerously getting horse collared and tossed to the ice from behind. People get confused with me saying it would be nice to see the Bruins give it back when their guys get run with "They need to fight everyone" which is completely to the extreme of my point.

People are saying it would be nice to see some push back, but it gets completely overblown by false accusations of wanting the team to go full goon. No one is saying that at all.

It's pretty much that simple.

It is that simple, but people twist it into something else to support their strange, obsessive narrative

Most people of our "ilk" fall into roughly the same characterization. For some weird reason, though, it's often misrepresented with intellectually lazy and borderline dishonest viewpoints.
The opposite is also true though. I’m still living that they allowed Tkachuk and that other puke Lomberg sit there and insult Nosek and his family and do nothing about it. It was embarrassing.

But I also know it was because they played and rostered the entire series in fear of the Panthers power play. Which was freaking stupid.

The only play I didn't like was Cozens grabbing Pastrnak my the neck and yanking him backwards to the ice. That's your teams best scorer getting dangerously tossed backwards to the ice.

Yes, for me, it would have been nice to see someone make his life a little difficult for the rest of the game. Put a little more oomph on a hit, let him know you didn't appreciate what he did to your best player. How that gets mixed up with "jump him" or "goon it up on him" I don't know. I would understand being cautious in a tie game or something, but the fact that they let that side among other plays even up 5-0 was a little tough.

There was a time when Andy Ference would have seen that horse collar, skated full bore, grabbed him gloves off, and forced that guy to fight. Is the league past that now? I don't know. Let's ask this guy:

Sorry - it’s a me thing here - but help me understand better what you mean by the opposite being true? I’m pretty sure I agree based on what I think you mean, because some will misrepresent the analytics arguments too - which is another reason I object to this hypocritical hysterical nonsense

It was mostly tongue in cheek, but I will say that I find myself going back and forth about moving Ullmark this season.

In the end, I think it all comes down to the return.

I’m saying people who typically fall into the opposite side of guys like you - “you don’t watch games you just look at spreadsheets” or whatever other insult gets thrown at those of us who like analytics - also aren’t as extreme as portrayed.

I think players are more willing to let stuff go than fans. While we had the toughest guys in the league during the prime Chara/Lucic years, there would be times where we wondered why they didn't respond. I remember there was a big debate if Julien was neutering their physicality because some people speculated he wasn't a fan of it ( I want to say it was in the 08 season ).

Yeah, any argument to this point would match my definition of hysterical

Perhaps.

But this also kind of shocks me to be honest.

I think tomorrows game against Montreal could be a good one if the boys are feeling embarrassed about last Saturday - They're honoring the 70's Bruins team before hand, I believe.

Julien? His very first pre-season there were 11 fights in 8 games.

Perhaps.

Players train with players from other teams all the time. Or spend family holidays together because their wives are friendly. Or they're from the same home town so they bond. Or they still have friends from a team they've been traded away from. It's not the same Us vs Them environment as it use to be.

That's where one of the older guys or the coach needs to remind them that hey - just because you're buddies off the ice doesn't mean you have to be buddies on it. I think the competitiveness doesn't fully kick in for some players until something really egregious happens.
