Nowhere else to put this,

Interesting article, thanks. Size is not quite everything for a modern goalie, but it certainly counts for a lot. That plus the equipment and the butterfly have certainly changed the nature of the position and brought to the fore positional excellence over sheer athleticism and reflexes.

I'd be in favor of reducing the size of some of the kit. Need to maintain safety, but the pads and blocker, possibly even the glove, could all be smaller while still being protective. The chest and shoulder guards that some of the guys wear - like Vasilevskiy - also appear to be unnecessarily big, so you could perhaps regulate that more tightly. I think if you changed the gear in this way it would force goalies to revert to having to be a bit more dynamic and increase their movement, and bring back a little more individual style. My guess is the league has zero appetite for such a change, but it could be nice.

Have you ever seen a "trapper" or glove worn by an analyst during intermission, etc.? It's absurdly huge.

Goaltenders, like every other athlete, are always looking for an advantage. Tony Esposito was infamous for seeking any edge to win. Go back and look at St. Patrick. He looks like a cross between the MIchelan Man and Robocop.

I agree with your remedy but also your conclusion. Unless equipment size leads to fewer goals -- Mon Dieu! -- the NHL could care less.

I remember a few years ago it ALMOST happened to the Bruins. Luckily, St. Patrice hustled back and scraped it off the line just in time
Good memory - it happened on April 10 - 2010 against Carolina.

Boston ended up winning that game 4-2 with goals from Paille ( 10th ), Wheeler ( 18th ), Begin ( 5th ) and Lucic ( 9th ) while Rask stopped 33 of 35 shots.
