Allan Walsh like many not a big fan of George Parros and Company

Allan Walsh is an idiot.

Shows several instances of two players jousting, fighting, roughing and jostling -- ending with one player getting crosschecked up high. Not good, but happens.

He compares that to his client who takes 5 or 6 strides across the ice and then blatantly cross checks some random dude that he thought had hurt his Captain. Ironically, a guy who was NOT involved but was in fact raising his hand to call for a trainer/doctor.

Perron would have been just as effective and justified if he's cross checked the Trainer in the melon.

Again, Allan Walsh is an idiot.

He maybe an idiot but he's dead on with his point here on what a circus act that the Department of Player Safety has become.

Regardless of whether the League was correct in the way they disciplined the examples he showed, Perron deserved much more for his action.

He's so lucky that Dub didn't get a broken jaw or something. If so, Perron would be in 40 game territory and rightly so.

So Walsh is correct on DOPS being arbitrary - but who doesn't know that already???? However, he's dead wrong when he suggests Perron's actions were even remotely like the examples he showed.

They’re about a year late on Berube but the GM is the bigger problem. Krug, Pietrangelo, Binnington. Not a lot of talent on that roster right now.

I agree. If Gudbranson was cheap and tough, great, but he's overpaid for what he brings, physical factor notwithstanding.

On a side note, I query the accuracy of this model for evaluating contracts. Hard to believe that every single contract Columbus has signed is 'bad' except for two of them. It doesn't seem to account for the fact that the team as a whole is poor and therefore their numbers, relative to the rest of the league, are generally on the lower end. I don't think it therefore translates that the contracts of guys like Werenski and Gaudreau have a negative value. Even a guy like Kuraly, who probably is slightly overpaid, I'd still say he does a decent enough job for his team and in the role that's assigned to him. These grades and evaluations just feel too harsh.
Disagree a bad team is usually bad because its stars are bad. Johnny "the floater" Gaudreau is exhibit A for this. I want to like Jarmo, he started with the Bruins after all, but contracts are not his strength.

so right, saw a Matthews crosscheck right to the face of a player the other night that was brutal and not a peep from DOPS

Wow. I was watching the Blues and Wings last night, and was mildly surprised that he was still the coach. Not alot of talent on that roster, and they still think Binnington is a starting goale.
Has Binnington had one of his patented meltdowns yet this year?

Agree to disagree. You may not like him, but Binnington is a very good starter who hates to lose. He holds that mediocre team in games more often than not. On topic, good riddance to big chief headhunter. He is a good coach, and respected by some. He is also a ruthless scumbag. The upshot of this is that it is most likely all downhill for the Blues. It probably will not matter to the rest of the league, as teams probably will not be able to get anyone useful from them, but you never know.

You can hate to lose and still not lose your mind.

See: Chara, Zdeno; Bergeron, Patrice for starters

True, but you should take off the homer glasses and admit Binnington's virtues.
There is no virtue in throwing tantrums as he has done on more than one occasion. His physical abilities as a goalie are irrelevant to that discussion. Let's leave it as agree to disagree, this is as far as I'm going with this conversation.

If you don't like my tone, tough. His skill is far from "irrelevant." It is most relevant. Good, glad conversation is over.

has there been a time where player safety had a 1 or 2 year streak of consistent rulings? this year is bizarre...still shaking my head about only a fine for Trouba

The good thing here is, he's just not a poster on a hockey site, and although he's controversial himself and has an opinion on everything he is a very bright man, hence his law degree and his position as a players agent, but this really isn't about him its about the ineptness of the DOPS. Imo Perron should have gotten way more but the player safety in a nutshell is terrible and widely inconsistent with their decision making and even though Walsh is actively protecting his player he's also throwing darts at dysfunctional Dept. of Player Safety and anytime some one with media ties and with player relations can throw a dark light their way its a plus IMO.
