We all

we all like how Gubranson plays.
Most here do. It’s the continuing overrating of bottom pair defensemen who are tough. He has one of the worst contracts in the league. Two more years after this at $4M.

He plays at a sub-replacement player level. Is his toughness enough to overcome that and pay him that money? For most here I’d guess probably. I think it’s pretty ludicrous, but you already knew that.

CHICAGO — Former NHL player and coach Tony Granato said on social media Sunday night he was been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and is taking a leave of absence from TV work for NBC Sports Chicago and the NHL Network.

The 59-year-old Granato posted on X that he will begin treatment this week.

“I wish I could reach out to everyone individually, but felt like this was the best way to share the news,” Grantato tweeted. “My family, faith, and friends will be my strength to help me through my treatments. I appreciate all the love and support I have received already.”

f*** cancer.

Was reading from Canucks fans and Flames fans saying that Gudbranson always sticks up for himself but has watched teammates get buried and reacts with nowhere near that intensity.

Doesn’t seem like he’d help the team toughness issue (ignoring the terrible contract) if he’s only acting tough like that when protecting himself

hmm, haven`t followed his career step by step but something doesn`t sound right here, I seem to recall him being pretty reactive if a teammate gets hit and he didn`t like it, recall a scrap he had as an Avs player when Johnson got hit by Panzarotti Penzetta, few more examples, he destroyed fat Pat when he was on the Flames, not sure if that was a defending a teammate incident.

It’s possible fans that watched full him for full seasons are wrong or lying for some reason.

I imagine in his career he’s probably had a fight or two for a teammate but for fans of 2 different teams that watched him play make the same comment obviously there’s got to be something to it.

still disagree, we all have watched this game for years and typically know the character of most recognizable NHL`ers, this is the first I`ve heard that he`s a guy who won`t stand up to team members, surely we would have heard about this long before now

Claude Lemieux a great example of a guy who not only would come to the defense of others, he`d turtle just like Cousins did more often than not

Again with posting players numbers and all while playing for crappy teams that have no bearing on what would happen in Boston......No chance these guys would ever be good as a Bruin.... nobody they ever get ever performs better here. Guy plays with Jake Bean IIRC. Also on pace for 30 pts, which is better than every D not named McAvoy. Already has 66 blocks and only 4 giveaways. He's also on the top pair of the leagues 6th ranked PK team, with 3 minutes per game.

I do agree Gudbranson is over paid and not great, but IMO would make a good pair with 48 on the bottom pair if he wasn't tied up for so long.

The first 2 or 3 pages of an hfboards search using the terms “Gudbranson” and “teammate” have multiple posts over the years of complaints about him not standing up.

Maybe they all have a weird agenda against him for whatever reason. Just seems very odd and something that I wouldn’t just dismiss. Maybe he has to be pressured to stick up for teammates and normally only looks out for himself. Idk but it’s a very odd reputation for a guy to have.

I agree. If Gudbranson was cheap and tough, great, but he's overpaid for what he brings, physical factor notwithstanding.

On a side note, I query the accuracy of this model for evaluating contracts. Hard to believe that every single contract Columbus has signed is 'bad' except for two of them. It doesn't seem to account for the fact that the team as a whole is poor and therefore their numbers, relative to the rest of the league, are generally on the lower end. I don't think it therefore translates that the contracts of guys like Werenski and Gaudreau have a negative value. Even a guy like Kuraly, who probably is slightly overpaid, I'd still say he does a decent enough job for his team and in the role that's assigned to him. These grades and evaluations just feel too harsh.

Perron gets a 6 game suspension for his crosscheck to the face of Zub. If he had been smarter he could have hit him over the head baseball bat like and likely received no games.
That type of thing is usually either 0 or 41 games

That hit on Larkin brought back memories of Patrice Bergeron lying on the ice.

Joseph needs to be suspended although I suppose the CBA limits how long. Whatever the max is he should get it. More if Bettman can do something.

He's pretty much the forgotten man in Toronto, all they ever talk about is Marner, Matthews & Nylander.
And he was supposed to be the guy that put them over the top.

Boy that was a long time ago...

Somebody on twitter said Toronto didn't have a bad team, they're just deferring their Cups until 2067

Gotta be honest, I didn’t see it that way at all. I just didn’t see anything major beyond what happens in just about every goal mouth scrum with a lot of bodies and a free puck. Unfortunate outcome, but not sure in my book it was much more that — a freak unfortunate outcome. Maybe I’m missing something.

The Perron boneheaded move on the other hand deserved every single minute of a 6 game hiatus.
