I guess I’m confused as to why Cap Friendly distinguishes between slide eligible and SPC exempt if they are essentially the same thing.
ELC Slide and Exempt contracts are not exactly the same. So I was wrong in my perception of the rules. My apologies for giving the wrong information.
This is from Capfriendly FAQ page
Is there a maximum number of contracts permitted?
The maximum number of contracts per team permitted is as follows:
Up until the day of the trade deadline, the NHL roster size limit is 23 (Non-roster, IR, LTIR, SOIR, etc. do not count to this limit). On and after the trade deadline, there is no roster size limit.
Total NHL contracts per team = 50 (including two-way contracts and NHL contracts in the minors), players who meet the following three conditions do not count to this limit:
1. The player is 18 or 19 years of age.
2. Is in a junior or European league, and
3. who have not played 11 NHL games the current season.
Total NHL players belonging to a team, including reserve lists = 90 (including roster, minor, prospects or drafted)
I was wrong about number of NHL games played earlier for exempt contracts. It is 11 not 10. But any player signed to a NHL contract who 18 or 19 who is playing in Euro-Leagues or Juniors and not played 11 NHL games is exempt from the 50 contracts.
MAG, Buchinger, and Dvorsky still count as being exempt from the 50 man limit per these rules. (And are currently marked in the same manner on capfriendly)
So, for example of someone who slid and still counted against the 50 man roster, we have Klim Kostin who jumped into the AHL at 18. While his contract slid the first two years due to not playing 10 games in the NHL, he still counted against the 50 contracts because he was in the AHL and not Euro/juniors.
Sorry for giving false information earlier.
