Excellent news - avoiding arbitration is the best case scenario, regardless of the years and AAV.
Agreed. The whole arbitration process sucks. As much as guys say it’s “just business” or whatever, if your organization is giving a presentation about how shit you are and how ludicrous your asking price is, that has to stick with you at least a little bit. Glad they avoided it.

Not a terrible price, would have wanted 3 years for that price but what ever really.

I'm not positive, but I'd guess the reason we didn't give Torop 3 years is that would take him to UFA.

2 years keeps him an RFA. 3 year ELC, 1 year at league min, 2 year bridge deal... 6 years of NHL contract. 7 seasons makes him a UFA?

I didn't consider that. Makes total sense.

Among other things, we need to find out in training camp if Sunny can still skate and Hayes can defend.

I hope our pro-scouting department already knows those things. Like did they take a look at games from last year before acquiring the guys? If they are just learning about the fundamental abilities of new signings/trade targets at training camp, then the whole front office needs to be fired.

sunny is there for team chemistry and leadership. i dont need him to skate circles around people. ROR could not skate either and he was not the reason why we were awful last year. kyrou can skate (when he decides he wants to) and he was a huge problem.

ROR did not contribute to the Blues NOT being awful. I don't really get that comparison. ROR most certainly was a problem last year.

But that contradicts Kyrou being the only problem.
I wanted ROR to be the solution. I wanted to see him really pick it up after the trade, to show that he still had gas in the tank, and maybe re-sign with the Blues. But that's not what I saw. He contributed a bit as a support player, but not a guy you'd be wanting to pursue for your Top 6 in free agency.

Armstrong makes mistakes at times. Or maybe more accurately, he bets on players who don't always work out. You can't bat 1.000 in those types of things because stuff that is impossible to foresee can happen, like injury or addiction. But Armstrong has been good about cutting the cord as soon as he figures out a guy isn't the answer any more.

ROR was terrible here last year imo. He couldn't keep the puck on his stick for more then a second before he lost it. And don't get my started on how he couldn't keep his balance at all. He was like early Oshie years when the baby giraffe couldn't f***ing walk. It was boggling to me how the guy went from so dominant to so junk in like 3 months.

As much as I disagree with Dizee, his point was that Sunny doesn't have to come in and be able to skate (like someone posed the question), but he's there for lots of intangibles and he is probably good for 25-30 points. ROR has never been a blazer on the ice and him being slow was NOT the problem with this team, even though he as a whole player did affect the team negatively.

I was just as much for not re-signing ROR as I was with Backes.

And they are two of my favorite Blues of all time.

Former Blues owner and world class piece of crap Bill Laurie who married into money then broke the Blues with a tantrum ... wifey's mega superyacht got drenched in paint and it's world news today.
I saw that. I hated that ownership.

Any rich person who buys a sports team as a tax write-off or just for cocktail talk can go get farked. I like our ownership group now.

That Jackwagon only bought the Blues because he thought he was getting an NBA and they’d share the Arena. It seemed like a good idea at the time. But what kind of an idiot sells off Pronger because he thought the new owner would want a clean set of books.

sold pronger but kept weight and tkachuk LOL

I truly believe the team is now fully set going into the season. Army would probably like to move one or two of our top 4 defense but with cap space drying up quickly it is going to be nearly impossible. That being said I think the first two months of the season are going to be incredibly telling for the future. If the defense rebounds and plays at a higher level I could see Army continuing down the retool route. However, if it is another rough start I think you have to seriously begin looking at a complete rebuild. Trading away any and all pending UFA's and aging players with maybe the exception of Schenn to keep some leadership in the locker room. Once the cap ceiling starts to rise again I think moving some of our defense will become easier and if not just wait out their contracts. Begin stockpiling young defenseman and picks to bring up with our solid forward prospect core.

But he is right handed filler. Honestly, fills organizationAl Ned, good size, super raw, but if we have open contract slot why not? I don’t expect him to amount to anything, but…
Well, for that reason actually. I don't like losing the open slot.

Using one of the 50 spots on him after his showing is still using up one of the slots. Based on CapFriendly right now, there are only three contracts the Blues have that can slide and this contract puts the Blues right at the maximum. The Blues still have flexibility (unless I'm misinterpreting something) and it's not like its going to mean much. But to lose any flexibility for someone who seemed so bad is odd to me.
