i believe this is just taking into account quality of opposition, but not teammate. that would be interesting to see in assessing difficulty of minutes but i don't think that is included here. It's kind of striking how few forwards are on that list. Shouldn't be too surprising, but he definitely gets harder minutes that I would've have expected on this chart.
The only question I have for this data, it's obviously taking Quality of Teammates and Quality of Competition into account, I'd be curious to what degree. The point being, what's the difference between someone like Parayko and a defensemen that gets the exact same type of minutes, but on a good team, where the quality of teammates is going to be much higher, and the team's possession numbers are going to be much higher, boosting their expected defensive rating. Part of the reason you see a lot of players rank high from bad teams on this list is because the metrics of the team suck, so they are expected to have poor results.
You have a few players from mid or good teams that get thrown out in really difficult situations, but also a lot of players on teams not making the playoffs.
I wonder what Parayko could have been with even a little break.Dom posted this. Visualizes what we already knew, that Parayko/Leddy is getting super tough usage and even just treading water is phenomenal.

This goes to show how wonderful of a season he is having. Not only is he charting career highs in points, but his defense has been impressive even with insane competition. Hats off to that guy!Robert Thomas is a beast.

I actually hate when he complains about penalties. From his post-game quotes, he seems to do it quite often. Like buddy, we’ve taken the 2nd least amount of penalties in the league. That’s not why we’re losing.

Does it? Not arguing either has been great this season but all this shows is that out of approx 800 NHLers, neither Krug or Faulk are among the top 25 in most difficult defensive minutes. They’re somewhere between spots 26 and 800.and further shows how awful Krug and Faulk have been
his dentist is not elite, apparently
If Berube was a players coach, then Bannister is a bit of the opposite. He is more like hitch in that he doesn’t seem to filer his comments to the media. I personally think we could benefit from a villain coach a bit (within reason). Someone who is a bit of a defensive tyrant, but not so oppressive on the creativity and offensive front like Hitch. I am not however convinced that Bannister is that guy.I actually hate when he complains about penalties. From his post-game quotes, he seems to do it quite often. He just comes across as a guy that’s fishing for answers whenever the team under-performs. I’m not all that impressed with him.
5. St. Louis Blues
36.49 GSAx (2nd) | .907 save percentage (7th)
It has been a year of resurgences in the crease, perhaps none more emphatic than Jordan Binnington’s return to the top. After back-to-back disappointing seasons, it was fair to wonder if he would ever be a top netminder again, but Binnington has racked up 26.36 GSAx (third-most in the NHL) and done his best to hold a struggling Blues team in the playoff race.
Rookie Joel Hofer has also had an excellent season behind Binnington. His 10.23 GSAx rank 24th league-wide, and he’s emerged as one of the better goalies under the age of 24.
Many months late to the conversation. lolWith 12 games remaining in the season JR writes an article asking is it better to tank or make the playoffs.
Great timing.
What does tanking get now?

I wouldn’t disagree that they may benefit from it.The article is filled with Backes, Jackman, and Janssen chiming in about the value of making the playoffs for young players.
I don’t disagree with anything the players said but it’s a moot point with 12 games left.

I think our combined sv% is now around .915From a recent The Athletic article ranking goalie tandems. I think you could make the case that they could be even higher. We truly do have elite goaltending, and if they keep it up, it's not like we have to do much to the roster to get some significant gains in the standings. The flip side of that is, if we don't maintain elite goaltending, then we could be in big trouble.
Oh God, oh no, Parayko plays video games, oh no no no, this is unacceptable, he has a Racing Sim in his house, Hurry trade him for a 3rd!!! No video games allowed!!!
Or Punching Taxi drivers?I think our combined sv% is now around .915
Could you imagine being such a locker room cancer that you stay home, mind your own business and play video games instead of going out to bars to get shit faced and arrested like Giroux and Matthews?
But that’s a famous Buffalo pastime. Totally acceptable. When in Rome and what not.Or Punching Taxi drivers?
Or Punching Taxi drivers?
What’s I find hilarious more than anything is how early in Pietrangelo’s career, FSM did an interview asking what he did to unwind as a professional hockey player. The interview showed him playing Call of Duty with a few others on the team at the time.Oh God, oh no, Parayko plays video games, oh no no no, this is unacceptable, he has a Racing Sim in his house, Hurry trade him for a 3rd!!!
