Yup, but there has been no drop off in quality of play. Besides, he has only played 2 games where he hasn't scored.

A lot of the talk I've seen from scouts and analysts is that Cowan is playing more of a professional game and as a result his offensive numbers have dipped.

“He’s trying to build a more professional-style game,” said Rob Simpson, Knights associate general manager.

With that has come a change that might alarm some Leafs fans: Cowan’s production is way down. His remarkable OHL MVP season in 2023-24 saw him put up 96 points in 54 games. This season, as his (again, remarkable) 65-game point streak came to an end, he’s potted 45 points in 36 games. Does this represent a levelling off in his development? It’s actually the opposite: Cowan is looking more and more like a player preparing himself for the pro game.

The chances of the Leafs next 1st being on the same prospect level as Cowan are very slim. This is an off year in some areas but he was all world last season and there are areas of his game that seem to have grown even when the numbers haven't. Playoffs are a reset and this summer is another. I think you can get your #3c with the 1st plus and that + won't need to be Minten or Cowen unless they are emptying the piggy bank for a younger guy with some term.

Yes, Cowan had a fantastic game. Our seats are behind the visitors bench and we were on him all night about his fake point streak record and asking where his gold medal was. To his credit, Cowan just ignored it and never looked up in the stands once.
