The puck off the foot was game one. He’s played very well in games two and three, and now leads the Knights in points, with 2+ 3. He’s a “Cowen” final game away from securing the MVP as well. Here’s hoping to a big final game, and win for him.

Some dingus on the main boards is trying to argue that there are 4 or 5 players on the Knights with a higher ceiling than Cowan. Lmao
There are some great players on the Knights.
Cowen always shows up in the big moments when the team needs him the most he has that extra drive .

People are always going to downplay Leafs prospects.... That being said, Dickinson, and Bonk are the only ones drafted earlier than Cowan. The highest I've seen O'Reilly is 35th. Halttunen is a really nice player, but was drafted after Cowan, and hasn't done nearly as much as him. I mean... Cowan put up 96 points in 54 games, Halt put up 61 points in 57 games... that one is ridiculous. I like Barkey too, and he was a great pick for Philly in the 3rd round... but his ceiling is below Cowan too.

Dickinson has the potential to be top pairing, so that's higher than Cowan.

Bonk I don't think has a ceiling as high as Cowan, but they likely aren't too far apart.

That's about it really.

In the end, who cares what anyone thinks... these players will transition to the NHL, and will either perform well, or not.

Barkey is so small and likely ends up feasting in the AHL for his career.

But yeah, I dont get why people put so much stock into what randoms think the better player will be. In the end it doesnt matter, and doesnt effect the Leafs. what effects the Leafs is how well Cowan is progressing and looks, and this year I don't think anyone can complain with what he did.

Quite possible but having a higher ceiling doesn't mean they'll ever hit it. Could also have a lower floor. I bet a lot of Leafs' fans claim marner has a higher ceiling than Draisaitl.

Let them achieve and measure actuals.

Marner at $12m or Cowan on ELC? $$$ for $$$ Cowan.
Totally agree. I've watched every Knights game in the Memorial Cup and the kid does everything...PP, PK, score, set up goals, brings the puck up ice on PP, out there defensively in the final minute, is tenacious....so much to love about his game. His playmaking is extremely good and he has a very hard shot. When compared to Marner, some similarities but also quite a few differences. Most importantly, he seems to be a big game player, whereas Marner wilts. Hopefully, Easton continues this solid foundation in the NHL. He needs to continue to work on his skating (which is quite good for junior) and bulk up a bit.

We need to pump the brakes on Cowan just for a second.

He's looking real good. But to expect him to come in and be a $ for $ replacement for Marner in his rookie season is setting him up for disappointment.

Look at how we pumped the tires up on Kadri and then fans wanted to trade him with how long it took him to become a regular? Look how many people were griping about Knies at various times throughout this season after him being the future last year.
Look around the league at guys like Wright struggling or someone like Laf who struggled and is now lighting up the playoffs, etc.

Cowan coming in and being a Marner replacement in his rookie year would be incredible snag for us, but we need to give the kid a chance to simply be an NHL player first before making him a saviour.

I’ve been saying that a lot in posts where our fans just have him penciled in on our 2/3rd line next - like it’s expected.

Sorry, but he’s not quite there - taking nothing away from the kid. Hell of a motor and hell of a talent.

He’s still essentially a boy.

I've been loving his performances this spring, and all of the accolades he's received. I am looking forward to whenever he can contribute to the Leafs... hopefully even next year.

But... he will never be as talented as Marner. He is NOT a Marner replacement in the least.

That doesn't mean he can't contribute, and help our team... and maybe even moreso in the playoffs, as he appears to be a big game guy... but he's never going to be that elite level player.

and that's ok....

(Some of the fan base treats players as either stars, or bums... with not much room in the middle.)

You’re right, he will never have the vision, see the ice as well, or the edge work on his skates, or be as elite as Marner. But, he will bring other intangibles Marner doesn’t have. He has that motor and a bit more feistiness than Marner. He has a much better shot but is a pretty accurate passer. He also seems to be a big game player.

When making the $ for $ comparison, it’s not a one to one comparison. You’re getting a very good player in Cowan on an ELC plus the players we acquire by trading Marner. Hopefully the difference in money saved would be used to bolster the goaltending and defence.

He is hardly a saviour but Marner could walk in a year and Cowan could easily replace what Marner brings in the playoffs $$$ for $$$. Which means we have $12 m to spend elsewhere. Detroit and Buffalo have the best prospect pools in the NHL and about to get better while we have traded a lot of picks the next two drafts. The best thing for the Leafs may be young , cheap and near NHL ready for Marner. The East is about to get way tougher and even.A reset on the build.

To be fair, Marner was a big game player in junior too. 44 pts in 18 playoff games and 14 pts in 4 games in his memorial cup run.

My guess is that Cowan has the build and character to play big boy hockey in NHL playoffs though.

I agree, looking at Cowan's build, he looks more solid and stockier than Marner did in his D+ playoff year. He'll add some weight to his 185 lbs in the following years allowing him to play that "big boy hockey" in the playoffs. In the words of Dale Hunter post-game "he's got the skill and the will" and that's why he rises up in big games.

Hopefully, no one expects Cowan to replace marner.

Reasonable folk are hoping he can play with NHL players and maybe even be part of a youth line/movement.

Berube does have some experience with youngsters, so that isn't a concern.

Maybe the new coach will make a difference, but to this point Marlies seem to be an after thought, and it seems most of the Marlies are write-offs.

McMann is not a youth movement candidate.

Robertson ... just don't know.
Knies ... seemed to step up in the playoffs.
Hirvonen ... if he isn't close maybe he's homeward bound.
Grebyonkin ... he has an out-clause so this might be a balancing act.
Minten ... could be a yo-yo player with the Marlies.
Cowan ... ?????????
