He made the team today

Oh I didn't realize they announced it already, I didn't check. I got an update about 12 minutes ago from the score listing the team and he wasnt on it unless he's the 13th forward.
Looks like maybe a typo by the score.

Thanks for telling me guys, I've been busy not really keeping up with things as you can tell lol

On trading Sandin for the pick? Looked bad but you have credit the scouting staff. This guy looks a top 6 to me or a brilliant number 3 C. A gamble that really paid off. This is why I hate trading first rounders. If you lose first round they can be very important pieces. I'm advocating not trading this year's, we need some top 4 dmen prospects. No one gives away Top 3 unless you pay a heavy price. I don't even think Marner gets a solid top 2 dman on the market. Cowan could replace Marner if he walks.

Emery would be a solid pick. 6'3 defender who can actually defend and skate well? Yes please.

These kids better bulk up fast
Minten I believe is already 6'2" and about 190 lbs. It's Cowan who needs time to grow and bulk up, and I hope they let him finish out his two remaining years of junior before they give him a run with the Leafs.

And I would say that as long as we are able to re-sign Nylander, our window of contention won't be closing any time soon. I'd rather we keep more of our picks, in particular our 1st this year, to get more low cost assets to balance out our cap structure and further extend our window.

Re: the Sandin trade. I thought we clearly got more than he’s worth. I can understand being uncertain trading him was the right call, but value wise I think we won that trade tbh. I’m also convinced the conversation was had prior to the season, when Rasmus wasn’t signing, that if he wasn’t a going to be a regular the team would move him. End of the day McCabe brings more to the D than Sandin did and I think he probably overplayed his hand the last offseason he was a Leaf.

The problem was Dubas got seen as a soft hand so everyone plays hardball.

I'm not much of a Sandin fan. Don't like his combination of slow footspeed and play style and thought Dubas did well selling off him while he still had that aura of being a high potential player instead of letting the value deflate a la Travis Dermott, and then have to re-negotiate with Sandin this offseason. Treliving came in and seems like he and the staff hit a home run with Cowan, so this is a great group effort. Only wish we had somehow managed to keep Erik Gustafsson since he's cheap and productive, but no real biggie.

Well, I doubt Treliving had anything to do with Cowan, since he wasn't permitted anyway. Cowan really seems like a Dubas/Feaster pick.

Yeah, Gustafsson would have been a Treliving release.

I think Sandin would still be the youngest defender if he wasn't traded.

Cowan's definitely a Wes Clark guy, so credit goes to the Dubas staff for sure.

For me, Sandin just doesn't have the right mix of ingredients to be an interesting player to build around on the blueline. He's not robust enough to be a foot soldier who can crash and bang like he likes to, so if he's not solidly Top 4 he's kind of wasted. Doesn't have the speed and high end offense that makes you think he could be a Quinn Hughes or even Sam Girard for you to want to build around. Doesn't have the defensive detail to trust him like a do it all on defense like a Brodie, Spurgeon.

Definitely going to be watch Team Canada this year, excited to see Cowan and Minten represent Canada and the Leafs!

If Cowan turns into a firecracker winger at the NHL level - that would be ideal. Him and Knies could turn into savvy picks, that fit team needs like a glove.

Looking like a Top 5 pick.
My apologies.

I was overly impressed on watching highlights from his games.

He doesn't look better than a top 10 pick, could never beat out Nate Danielson.

Okay, just mucking around ... and curious how many ELSC Leafs will need in the line-up to get under the cap.
