Prospect Info: [2023 - 144th] Yevgeni Volokhin (KHL - HC Sochi)

To me he's the most sleeped on prospect we have, any vids I do on him barely get 200 views but this kid could be something special or a nothing burger but I don't get why fans aren't more interested when you see how Russia is developing goalies these days.

It's because we have Dobec, Flower, and Primeau and the Russian goalie is not exposed to most general Habs fans.

When do you think the Habs sign him? BK also?

Volokhin is signed in the KHL for 2 more seasons after this so they have time to see how it goes for him

I actually like this. Comes over potentially at age 22. I like him developing in Russia... going to get more high danger shots and players who can shoot the puck vs what you see in the AHL.

One of the things why Russia generates good goalies is due to the skill their players have and it's a little more open than in Canada. I think their goalies face better shooters and high danger shots during their development.

Look at the difference between Primeau at the NHL vs AHL.

He's on one of the worst teams in the KHL and he's currently in a battle with Ivanov who is similar situation, both NHL drafted prospects that have put up really impressive #'s in juniors and now are fighting for TOI in the KHL. Very interesting story to follow imo as this could pay huge dividends down the road as Volokhin has the perfect size imo (though I struggle badly with goalies)

When you look at Dobes, he had some really rough defenses in front of him in the USHL, NCAA and last year in Laval (Norlinder, Mailloux, Trudeau, Barron in your top 4 will give any goalie nightmares) but that could have ended up being great for his development.

Always nice to have a few of these types. You never know how they end up

Now up to .910 save% over the season. Only 7 goaltenders in KHL history have had a higher save% in a U20 season and three of them are in the NHL right now (Vasilevsky, Sorokin and Samsonov) and the others are good prospects who could eventually make the NHL as well (Moysevich, Zavragin and Ivanov).

If you take his numbers since December 18 he has a .923 save% - Three U20 goaltenders in KHL history have had better numbers over a full season than that.
