OT: 2022 Winter Olympics Thread

It makes sense in terms of the league. It makes NO sense in terms of the games. Every other winter sport is either on Ice or Snow. Hockey would be the only ICE sport to be played in the summer games.
Its played indoors so thats not a big deal. Better than watching these hacks hack it up.

Why would they do that? Those athletes have no in-season conflict. I am not arguing that hockey is a summer sport.

i already said it makes sense for the league to want to be in the summer games. Of course they would want that, no time off, great promotional event.

Unfortunately it makes no sense for the actual Summer Games to have an ice sport. It goes against the current split.

Anyone get a chance to catch the US/China game? Just looking at stats, Helleson only played 10 minutes but picked up an assist.

I did... he wasn't really noticeable in the game. Perbix and him are the 6/7D and rotating a lot.

To me, if you can get beyond the scoring, Faber was the best player on the ice. Farrell will get the press, but Faber was beyond impressive.

What the hell. Off Avs topic thread…. Here is Gavin Abric.

“Played for the New Jersey Hitmen (NCDC) in 2019-20 ... played in 28 games ... garnered a 1.97 goals against average ... posted a .931 save percentage ... first team all state (2018-19)… second team all state (2017-18)… Player of the Year finalist in 2019… National Honor Society member with high honors… also participated in golf and mountain biking ... has three siblings.”

He plays for West Point, Army. He is a West Point cadet. 2nd year. A yearling or ‘yuk’. Who knows where he will end up. But he is a top shelf goalie with excellent stats. And did I mention… he is a West Point cadet. Which means he qualified, passed way harder rigors than pretty much any institution in, well, anywhere… went through Beast Barracks, super smart… and a slew of other things just to get into and maintain at West Point. And who knows. He may end up playing professional hockey at some point via the the special dispensation for service academy athletes. Or not.

Posting this because to make it into West Point is a stunningly short list of highly accomplished individuals. To play at the excellence he is playing is amazing… while maintaining the rigors of West Point which is not for the feint of heart.

So there are two things that are close to my heart… goalies, and West Point cadets. Oh, and he is a Hobey Baker nominee, in his 2nd year. Not bad.

FWIW. An FWIW, my avatar is shockingly WP, aka The Black Knights, the Black Knights of the Hudson. Deep associations with WP. Remarkably solid people.
