OT: 2022 Winter Olympics Thread

US got goalied last night. 2 goals on 53 shots to Canada's 4 goals on half that many shots. US also went an Avs like 1/6 on the PP, while Canada went 1/1 and also scored on a penalty shot.
I completely forgot to watch last night. I was just sitting there thinking how board I was wanting the Avs all star break to be over. Sigh :(. I'll need to set a reminder for the next time they play. Will that be for the gold? I don't even know how the Olympics have the brackets set up.

If they do meet again (and it's probably 99% certain they do) it would be in the gold medal game

I watched a bit of the game and I have no clue how good any of these players or countries are, but it was a night to day difference and there is no argument to be made. USA goaler was very mediocre and that Canadian one was absolutely out of this world, it could've been 3-0 USA in the first period alone. However, she made the big saves and kept the momentum for Canada to eventually find their feet. I don't know if the USA one is their starter, but she's too short, even for the women's game to be the main goaler for a country.

Not sure what's going on, but I don't think I saw at least one ad for the game yesterday. I was just DVRing anything Olympics and I randomly came across it. Awful stuff by NBC.

USA power play was utter shit. Jack Han also said online that the rather conservative 1-1-2 forecheck the Americans were employing is likely not ideal for women's hockey in general.

The USA goalie wasn't great but also there were some bad defensive breakdowns. You can't let Rattray walk in like that into the slot unimpeded.

Not loving the coaching thus far.

The Italian mixed doubles Curling team was amazing. 11-0 on their way to the gold medal. Just so consistent all tournament and watched as their opponents struggled to match their consistency.

Also caught Nathan Chen's short program. Been a big fan of his since last Olympics when he had a disastrous short program and relied on brute force (attempted six quads and landed five of them) in the free skate and nearly came within reach of a medal. Thankfully this time around he nailed the short program.

Had an, I guess you call it acquaintance of mine, participate in the mens ski big air. Unfortunately didn’t make it to the finals. But did have a Tik Tok go viral in china

America is having a rough Olympics. Mikaela Shiffren looks lost, I can’t see Shawn White winning half pipe again.

Berra was bloody good against Russia, but lets in that type of goal to lose the game. Perfect Berra scenario why he never made it.
I don't think you can blame the goalie for a defenceman kicking it past him.

Every member of China’s first Olympic men’s hockey team played club hockey this season for Kunlun Red Star, a Beijing-based KHL team. That made it easier for players with no Chinese heritage, such as Chelios, to become eligible to represent China

They really are. Shiffrin skiing out twice in her two best events is an enormous shocker. Before the Olympics she was probably a lock for a medal in both events. I'm so bummed for Shiffrin. She's one of my favorite athletes ever. I've been following her crush the World Cup circuit for a decade and this Olympics seemed like the place she would cement her GOAT position in female ski racing. Now I hope she is doing okay mentally and can participate in these next few races. White is a shell of his former self and while I'm impressed he put up a run good enough to get into the finals, but he's mostly in Beijing to promote his new brand. Some other Americans like Chen and Jacobellis are living up to expectations but with all the Chinese controversy, weird/bad NBC coverage, lack of NHL level hockey and American's under-performing this Olympics has been pretty meh so far.
