Trent Thornton has been absolutely trash his entire MLB career. He has been in the bigs 4 seasons, has done absolutely nothing and not once has there ever been a peep of sending him down/dumping him.

To compound that, the manager for some reason thinks he doesn't suck and keeps trotting him out in high leverage situations.

Like why? Does Thornton have pictures?

He's a great human being by all accounts (especially with how gracefully he handled the tragedy that befell his coaching staff this weekend) and looks out for his guys, but holy shit he couldn't manage his way out of a paper bag.

Definitely feels like someone who would be a great secondary coach.

Edit: also, Joe Maddon is absolutely not the answer as a replacement lmao. He got turfed in LA for a reason.

Bad managing. Everyone knew the jays were likely losing the hatch start. So common sense said put him up against McClanahan. Then you have gausman for the night game. But no charlie put the aces against one another. Then bad luck struck and kevin couldnt go past 2 innings. Cant forsee gausman being struck with a ball but you can forsee tampa raking off of hatch

Joe Maddon hasn't done jackshit since the Cubs won the world series in 2016 and he nearly handed that title to Cleveland with his abhorrent bullpen management in that series.

Chapman is a bit of a weird one

He always struck out a ton but his big thing was he walked a ton. Combining that with his defense and he's was basically what the Yankees thought they were getting when they traded for Joey Gallo.

The K rate is actually more around his career average (down dramatically from his nightmare 2021 season) but his walk rate has dropped pretty significantly as well.

Not sure what to make of him.

It seems like every trade they make they win. Imagine if they had ownership thay would spend a bit.
Archer for baz,glasnow and meadows was insane. Then they got archer back for free. Then this past season trade meadows for paredes. Remarkable asset management.
