I'm not saying you're wrong, but do you have a link? I follow this stuff and haven't seen anything.
Sanderson is still healing and hopes to be ready by Ottawa's camp. Zero chance he's playing here after getting hurt near the end of the UND season.

Reading Scott Powers Athletic blackhawks Prospect camp article, Commesso did confirm he's not going.

One player you won’t see is goalie Drew Commesso. He was expected to be the U.S. starting goalie, but he decided to opt out.

“It was a tough decision to make,” Commesso said. “Everyone with the Blackhawks were so supportive of me to make the best decision for my development. There’s some personal stuff back home that obviously we don’t have to get into, but I thought it was the best decision for my development to focus on school and properly train and prepare for the season at BU.”

Has Nazar been invited, and if yes, does he have a decent chance to make the team? Or is this only for the 2021 WJC that wasn't?
There’s a big camp that’s for both. There will be a player or two that wasn’t there in December that makes it this time. He’s going to be competing with his NTDP teammates from last season and some others. Not impossible, but it’ll be hard to make it. He should make it for December, although there’s some precedent that suggests it’s not a guarantee for a prior first round pick, if they struggle.

Ah, thanks.

I'll never understand the mentality of some players that the best way to develop is to not take advantage of high intensity development opportunities, which are few and far between, to do something you can do every day of the year. His season ended in March. He's had endless time to train and focus on school. 3 weeks away for the WJC wouldn't affect that at all.

Agree. Minus injury, there is no downside but lots of upside.

Looking at his quote, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because he says there's a personal matter that made it difficult for him to play.

The ones that decide not to play to prepare for the season are the players whose reasoning I don't like.

How would playing a few games in August matter that much to his development? Players are better off training and getting ready for their season rather than play in a watered down tournament (no Russia team, most top players opting out) in August. Watch the injuries pile up and then many will question why players opted in to begin with. BU has a new coach and the kid probably wants to catch up on classes and be ready for the BU season and probably turn pro in April - that supercedes a makeup tournament in the middle of August IMO.

Other teams are telling their prospects to skip it as well...Meanwhile, team Slovakia released the roster they’ll use at the Hlinka tournament to prepare for the upcoming World Junior Championships and neither Juraj Slafkovsky or Filip Mesar are on there which may come as a surprise to Habs fans. According to Matej Deraj, a Slovak journalist, the Canadiens want Slafkovski to focus on preparing for next season and they’ve told Mesar that they don’t recommend he plays in the tournament. Furthermore, Deraj reports that Mesar is still not sur where he’ll spend the next season as there are 3 options on the table; the American Leaugue, the Ontario Hockey League or the Swedish League (two teams are reportedly interested in having him). The young man has told the Canadiens that it’s up to them and that he'd respect their decision.

The Hlinka is U-18.

Agreed.

Let's cancel all youth tourneys. Nah, that's not nearly enough, let's cancel all games, period.

Players are better off training and getting ready for their NHL debut. Otherwise, watch the injuries pile up and then many will question why players opted in to begin with.

Remember, kids - practice, scrimmage, weights, dryland. You don't want to jeopardize your future playing in those risky games.

I think I'm ready for this team to go the Finland/Czech Republic/Slovakia route and pick the best prospects as opposed to the best players.

What's the point of losing with all our secondary 19 year olds? I want a lot of the 2022 draft eligibles making the team, along with at least Stramel from the 2023's.

Samoskevich-Bordeleau-Coronato
Knies-Cooley-McGroarty
Duke-Gauther-Pastujov
Berard-Stramel-Boucher
Janicke-Slaggert

Kleven-Faber
Hughes-Chesley
Hutson-Gallagher
Peart-Behrens

Silverstein/Mbereko

Just a guess but I think Canada will be down at least 12 players from what would have been our 2021-2022 U20 team. Just like you I'm going to enjoy seeing a bunch of other guys play and make their mark.
