It’s flying under the radar but Wacha has easily been the teams best SP. Not even particularly close. I expected them to change his pitch mix and make him serviceable but he’s been downright good
To me it’s pretty clear they found a way to maximize his changeups effectiveness. He’s throwing it more than ever and has cut down on his cutter, which was a terrible pitch last year. One of the worst in baseball iirc. The thing that strikes me as interesting is his changeup is slower than he’s ever thrown it, and by a significant amount too (about 2.5 mph slower than the last couple of seasons). His FB velo is even down this year but it doesn’t matter because his pitch mix is much more optimal
Also for the record if Tanner “I’ll do anything to help my team win” Houck actually lived by his words we wouldn’t have had to turn to a washed up reliever throwing 92 to face a prodigy with 2 homers and get a lucky win on a great play by Story. Whitlock would’ve closed it out and it would’ve kept our pants from filling with shit. Thank god we had Story at 2B.
I hope people appreciate what wander almost did to us last night. Almost won single handedly. My god that kid is beyond elite. Generational talent.
