I immediately thought that the balk might affect him. Not sure if it did, but it certainly makes you think. Concentration could go to delivery rather than task at hand.

My impression is that the Red Sox aren't a bad team per se, they're probably a slightly over .500 team as currently constructed, an 87-to-90 win type in neutral conditions. But they're in the hardest division in baseball which is going to make their shortcomings get exploited harder by the competition.
