29 and will probably want a huge deal next offseason and only plays one end of the ice, albeit very good. I can see why they moved on from him.

But making this reply i didn't realize Tkachuck never had a ppg season until this monster season. Even if he settles in as a 75-80 point player, I think he's better overall than Huby (and much younger)
Again, Sky is pretty much laying out my thoughts.

That Panthers defense wasn't that good to begin with. Now they've lost Chiarot and Weegar and all they've brought in are Marc Staal, Michael Del Zotto, and Anthony Bitetto.
Tbf...Weegar was a human pylon against us. Would've liked to have seen him stay lol.

No way they make this trade without having a plan to replace Weegar.

They're over the cap by about $3.3m right now, but putting Duclair on LTIR and trading Hornqvist gives them about $5m in cap space.

Maybe enough for Klingberg? Or finally a Chychrun move? Would think that would require Knight as they have no picks and a pretty barren prospect pool

They won't get a better player than Weegar, but Tkachuck replacing Huberdeau could offset some of that defensively.

Duclair is going to return midseason, so LTIR isn't a season long fix.

well if you guys think we had a bad offseason the panthers have been f***ing terrible. their defense already sucked and now it's barely better than ottawa. huberdeau was also their only real gamebreaking offensive talent so even if tkachuk is better it doesn't make much sense.

just imagine if we traded kucherov and sergachev for tkachuk

Guess they wanted to change their “culture”: Grit over finesse. Become more tough to play against. Two times in a row a Tampa team just shoved them aside, suffocating, out-skilling and out-hitting them.

It's not the worst thing for Florida if Huberdeau wasn't going to sign a reasonable deal. However, Tkachuk is being insanely overrated on one good season. Since Huberdeau is going the other way he will be worth a lot less to Florida unless they find some other playmaker, because that 100 pts was all on the back of Gaudreau.

Calgary will have another go later when they can't re-sign Weegar or Huberdeau long term.

I feel like Florida could have done a better deal than this though, Hubs is arguably the better player

I except lots of goals against next year and one of their goalies will be leaving Knight or the old russian stud BOB.

It feels like if this board post CBJ sweep were running an NHL team.

Fun to watch, from a distance.
Funny cause we never made any extreme move after getting swept besides adding goodrow and Coleman at the deadline later on. Added pieces like bogo and maroon to the core we had. Didn't move on from any of those core guys thankfully lol.

It feels too soon to be done with our offseason. There's got to be more, right? Namestnikov, Meyers and Mismash is just terrible regardless of our cap situation.
