As bad as the contract offered would play out in later years, why would we want a player that isn't exactly trilled to join the Devils and is using the team as a trading chip?
Screw Gaudreau. Pull the plug and focus in improving the team in other ways.

Maybe the Devils need to call their bluff and see how serious they are about other destinations.

He probably wants to come to NJ given PHI isn't stepping up. This is just part of the game, to maximize his earnings, stay strong. NJ is screwed a bit here by the fact that they have cap space to burn and could go to 11.5m x 7 probably if absolutely necessary, and his agents are just doing their job to get that number up.

Going off rumors Palat is down to a few teams, us, Seattle, possible others
I'd bet he prefers us and is waiting until Gaudreau chooses, if it's not use Palat happily comes here and if we get Johnny he's going for his other options

We’ve had MacKenzie, Friedman, Lebrun and Duthatchuk at the Athletic mention Columbus. My guess is they came in with the biggest offer.

I agree...we can't take this stuff personally, it's not like the dude owes us anything.

That said if he doesn't go to the Isles, us or the Flyers his home thing is total bullshit and he should have just taken Calgary's offer. It's like how Freddie Freeman wanted to stay with the Braves until he didn't.
