Everyone needs to chill here today. Johnny is a luxury. Today is already a great day, shed Zacha and hired a great assistant/possible Ruff replacement mid year.

If no Johnny only really interested in a Bratt resigning and look into a Niedereitter/Perron.

The devils are going to be very very good starting 2023 when we get a full top pairing possibly up at the same time.

Johnny coming makes this season a little more interesting but again we will be good with or without him.

Nobody told me there'd be days like these...

I'm not a lawyer.

I'm just a fan on a messageboard who wants his favorite player (and Johnny) to be signed.

I am also a bit skeptical on all rumors until they're confirmed.

So when Weekes mentioned what he did, I was like "uh huh. Okay."

Because we can speculate the same thing but probably have done it WEEKS before FA.
My guess is NJ offered a longer term deal at about $6.5 mil and Bratt's agent knew the upcoming deals would be better than that so he waited. Maybe they end up with the Nico deal? Hard to se NJ offer Bratt what Hughes got. Ultimately, I don't think Bratt wants to sign just a two year deal so they probably compromise on something around 4 or 5 years at about $7? Just my guess.

Remember when the lag on Niedermayer (who went elsewhere) and Parise (who went elsewhere) crippled the team from doing other things while they waited. This is going to be bad.

I disagree about this - the Devils should not be keeping anything open for Gaudreau. Make the moves they have to make and if Gaudreau's still available, circle back. The Devils certainly did not think Parise was coming back at any point during the 2012 UFA period.

Yeah. These deals (especially the Thomas one) pretty much solidified the possibility of him getting the Nico deal which I'm totally fine with.

If Devils sign Gaudreau to big money, Bratt might really want a shorter term deal, possibly taking him to the big offseason (3 or 4 years) when the cap rises big time once the players pay back the owners.
