The thing is most people are never wrong about 1OA because it's never really close. This is the rare time it's very close.
Yeah 99% of the time everyone knows. Even the Nico-Nolan year it was heavily leaning Nico in the final days. Maybe 2014 is the last time there was at least some suspense in it?

I just refuse to think that an NHL franchise would take a winger over a center when they are darn close to each other in every other way. Gotta take the center
They must legitimately believe that Slaf is appreciably better than Wright. Which honestly would give me a little pause toward selecting Wright when the Canadian team isn't selecting a good old boy and a seemingly consensus #1 (who fits a need on top of all that) in their own backyard.

trading #2 overall for an established NHL player that will require the team to pay him a considerable amount of money over a long period of time goes completely against what this ownership group is looking to do.
Yes , I’d be very surprised if now Fitz decides to,use some very premium assets on a player with limited control (I know an extension would likely have to be in place prior ) , but makes no sense to do this now with where we are at currently. I think that it would be a mistake to trade for Debrincat

No, I think it was pretty close in 2017. There were some "rumors" that were indicating the devils were interested in Nico but it was still very close imo.

Blackhawk fan response being mostly “FU” to that tweet is kind of funny.

If the Devils are involved then I fear a repeat of the Schneider trade. A trade of reasonable value for a great player that ultimately hurts you a few years later.

With Slafkovsky, it's really based on a very high projection. The potential is there for him to be a big winger and we all know how scouts love to fall in love with measurables and physical tools for projection purposes.

With Wright, I think there's a feel he might not be a guy who "dominates" or takes over games or in offensive zone and that while he's got a safer feel/floor to him if you will, he may not be a #1 center. When you watch him play in isolation, there really isn't any attribute that makes me go "wow", but I see a really big toolbox, experience, solid fundamentals and really good even if not great in most areas. Scouts who kind of even are a little meh on Wright admit, you appreciate him more when you watch him more and the high level of hockey IQ and ability to play in all zones and level up in key situations/body of work.

I'd have pause too a little bit in my mind, but I think I still take Wright and over Cooley/Nemec. I don't see where another team is going to come in and say "hey Devils, trade your pick, we'll give you incredible value in return". I just can't see the trade return right now. I don't like dropping in the draft when you have a chance to make a good pick. Dropping 5-7 spots is a big risk. You go into a second rung of prospects/even third sometimes.
