he can sign an extension in 6 days

I would imagine that any trade for Debrincat would have that extension already tentatively in place
If Fitz does make that deal then it'll be interesting to see him try to talk around that for a week after he was pounding the table over not trading #2 for an asset that wasn't controlled.

I mean he wouldn't have to talk around it. He can just say there's a deal in place. The deal can't be signed but it isn't like you can't talk about an extension before the day it opens up to sign it.

The Debrincat/Gaudreau discussion will most likely end up being a moot issue once we select Slaf at #2 after the Habs do the EXPECTED and select Wright.

Just a feeling I have that this will be the end result after all the discussions...arguments...and so forth.
That's how this always goes, lots and lots of talk and if then scenarios, and then everybody just does what we all expected from the start. Doesn't mean this isn't the most entertaining time of the year as an armchair GM.
Remember when Dach should have went 1OA instead of Hughes because Dach had 9 good games in the bubble playoffs lol
Pepperidge Farms sure does.

trading #2 overall for an established NHL player that will require the team to pay him a considerable amount of money over a long period of time goes completely against what this ownership group is looking to do.

Eh I would have agreed 24 hours ago and most of this summer but there seems to be a LOT of smoke around the Habs taking Slaf at this point, and #2 being on the block. Usually by the day of the draft we know who the #1 pick is going to be anyway and there's still some doubt.
Well we're both going to find out in about....*looks at clock*....3 hours and a half (or so) whether that's the case or it's much ado about nothing but the Status Quo.

Hmm... I recall a poster named Status Quo here awhile back....

This shit is sooooooooo f***ing moronic. We literally just signed one of the best UFA deals ever ONE YEAR AGO

Yea I’m on team keep the pick and sign Johnny. I hope the Habs take Wright now lol. Fitz will not pass up on Slaf haha
i am team keep the pick, bratt and the rest of the cap space.

get to the playoff first. else the devils end like toronto. a capped out first round loser without the flexibility to take corrective actions.

they just gave Dougie Hamilton $63 million not even a year ago.

they just gave JAck Hughes $64 million not even 8 months ago

they just gave Nico Hischier $51 million a few years ago

Well four hours since the draft begins at 7 and it'll probably take till about 7:30 to get through the intros, the #1 pick stuff and then a possible trade at #2

Hour and a half? I think we're 4 hours away from knowing. I think exactly what they're going to do is held under wraps until they made their pick at like 7:30

Devils won't end up like Toronto, they aren't going sign a luxury center in free agency like Toronto did. They arguably need pieces everywhere besides center and RD for next year so anywhere else would be mostly likely be an upgrade if they spend.
