If he were Canadian with that mix of speed, defensive acumen and physicality, Barabosha would've been gone by the 3rd round for sure.

Honestly if they're giving Blackwood another year to prove himself, I think Smith deserves another shot in NJ as well. But I wouldn't be totally opposed to that, doesn't Carolina need RHD more with the departure of DeAngelo today?

If STI was writing him up as Kevin Steen on the indies/in ROH, he'd have emphasized his compete level and wrestling IQ.
Not ideal size, but unexpected work rate given his body type. Some character concerns. May or may not be on the list.
Was bummed when he re-signed with WWE instead of going to AEW, but as long as he's getting that money I don't fault the guy at all.

Necas is a potential PPG F. If you can trade Smith for him, you do it. I'd throw in something to make it work.

Oh yeah, I didn't mean it in terms of not trading him in general. But I don't want the guy traded for scraps either off one really bad year. His rookie year was pretty good too, if he lands somewhere in the middle for his career that would be a tremendous defense core that we have in NJ.

3 Latvians were drafted and going Elite Prospects that’s only happened other times: 2015, 2002 (& we were a part of that historical moment!), and 1993.

I don't think the Devils would have to add so much. Both players excelled two years ago but had tough years last year. Both have 1st round pedigree. D more valuable than W. I'd say it's close to even.

I like Jake Gardiner but he's absolutely cooked
i agree. he is a cap dump, who would lower the price on necas. the devils can live with his one year contract.

He used to be really good. Back injuries suck. It likely wouldn't be to play him much as the injuries have probably wrecked him for good. It'd be as a cap dump. Not sure if we're be able to swing him as a cap dump if we did the other things I'd like to do. Also doubt we'd take non a 4.45 mil salary guy as a cap dump
