What's to yuck? One of the most physical D in the draft, the best defensive right-shot defender in the MHL. Skates extremely well and very good with the puck, shows more offensive aggressiveness and instinct than the average shut-down physical guy. We might have finally found the perfect parter for Luke Hughes at #198 overall.

If that’s actually what he is then that’s precisely what teams fall in love with and he’d have gone higher than this. Leads me to believe he’s not actually that good. I don’t have any faith in an over age unproductive shutdown D ever coming remotely close to panning out

Makes me wonder if Severson is gone....
Nemec will be NHL ready by 2023-24. Probably McCarthy is ready to make a run then too, but I'd give him a year in the AHL. Barabosha, Casey and Leddy are all at least 3 years away. Walsh I don't think is a legit NHL prospect, and is likely to be traded now that we drafted some guys who can actually defend.

I'm not sure this affects Severson, really.

He's not overage. I mean, yeah, I'm always deeply skeptical of 7th round picks, but he seems better than most.

He’s not overage. He’s a March ‘04 birthday.

ALL the Russians fell. Barabosha is a March 2004 birthday. Shut-down defenders are more valuable to NHL teams than Will Butchers and Reilly Walshes. "Production" is an abject myth with these types of players. Barabosha can literally skate circles around a player like Walsh. He might be the most physical D in the system right now, also great in defending against the rush and an accomplished shot blocker. Exactly what the doctor ordered.

At #198 oversall, you got yourself a potential Erik Cernak. Just a brilliant pick. The Devils Russian scouting has been the one exemplary consistent over the past 6 or 7 drafts.

How would he compare to Okhotyuk in terms of NHL potential?

My only complaint about the Russian scouts is that I think we should give them more picks
Yeah, I'm still hurting about passing on Matvey Petrov for Viktor f-ing Hurtig.

I'd love it, it would make the Nemec pick more tolerable too if he had a plan for the wing.
My vote is trade Ty Smith for Martin Necas.
