Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

Who's that exactly?

Must have missed all the brilliant moves that our competition is making. Avalanche might have just imploded themselves and Vegas signed a "reclamation project" that you've been obsessive about the Oilers avoiding.

What were the others? Or are we just pretending that literally anything else other teams do is genius again?
He's the guy who thinks Blackwood's .874 SV% is going to automatically win the Avalanche the Cup or something, I think.

I got in after the Philly win in ‘87 so I witnessed the Cup wins against Boston. When we moved to the new building I didn’t last long. Hope you get to enjoy a McD cup this year. Go Oil

I found a ticket stub from a game I went to when Gretzky was with the Blues in '96.

Row 10, middle section, club. Face value - $45. Even with inflation that's still like $90, and I pay more than that per game for my seats in the second deck. We have similar club seats with my company, and those are about $25k for the pair for the year.

Oh how I missed out haha.

Bowman is repeatedly failing to make impactful adds while obsessing over reclamation projects on the fringes of the roster. Whether this is because the GM fraternity wants nothing to do with him after certain events or because he lacks the wherewithal, we are once again watching a has-been get out maneuvered by much better executives. Katz really needs to ask himself why he keeps getting bamboozled like this, it’s such a bad look.
Oh shit... Its March 3rd already? Oh god I'm behind on my mortgage

Sort of a hot take from me lol,

i know it was only one game but, after a positive step forward in his first game, I think Klingberg will eventually fit into the top 4 role. This is why I think the Oilers biggest need at the deadline is a 2nd line winger, bottom six forward and a depth defender.

We need a finisher for Leon. Arvidsson nor Podkolzin are that

I’m trying to reconcile these two statements and I can’t. How can we be the best team in the NHL when we’re neither first in points, win percentage or wins?
Since NOV, best team in the NHL. On pace to win Presidents trophy

So what magical teams making big brain moves are you referring to since the Oilers are better than all of them?

Katz doesn't mind spending but the cap is in US dollars and our revenue even though high for a CAN team at the cusp, we are at a disadvantage. We will see what happens.
Recently the Oilers have made great strides on the revenue side. Last year depending on the source they were anywhere from 1st to third in overall revenue.

It is also likely that the Oilers have hedged for currency fluctuations. The spread in interest rates is still not so great so the cost to do so is not that great. If the currency differential is long term it could have some impact but I doubt that the impact in the short term would impact the on ice product.

Ladies and gentleman a public service announcement. Call and/or hug your parents if you can. My Dad has just passed away unexpectedly with more I wish I could have said or done to show my love.
Sorry to hear for your loss oilers brother, prayers for you and your family in this hard time.

This cap news is actually just gross. You know who is getting stuck with the bill, you and me.
I was a STH until they priced me out almost 8 years ago. Spoiled millionaires and shrinking dollar coupled with a high cost of living and now tariffs on the way. Hold on folks.
I prefer watching from home now anyways. The new arena is a horrible fan experience compared to a lot of other arenas.

I have a ticket stub for a game against the Jets in 1995. $13 for upper level seats.

They pushed pretty hard with Crosby and If let's say Mcdavid wanted to sign for 5.5 they would not allow it. It would be shut down.

Now I don't think any player would take such a steep discount.....

I guess I'm solely talking in the event that Mcdavid wanted to sign for 5.5 they would shut it down. I know the PA is heavily against this. Why? I'm not sure. I remember hearing that a few contracts in the summer of 2021 were declined on this bases.

Maybe somebody else can jump in as to why.
McDavid could sign a league minimum and the nhlpa couldn’t do anything about it.

You’re out of touch as per usual.

Or do you not understand that McDavid making more won’t increase the salary cap/revenue, and it just takes money away from other union members

I would be very interested to know what formal mechanism the NHLPA or the NHL has to prevent McDavid from signing a league minimum contract.

Well McDavid or any other player out there would never sign a contract for 35% of what he’s actually worth so that’s really not even worth a discussion. If he wanted to take 13M-14M instead of 15M-16M that’s he prerogative and there’s really nothing the PA can do about it. Crosby has taken significantly less twice and the PA didnt do anything. Plenty of guys every year take discounts or sign with contenders dirt cheap when they could get far more from other teams and the PA never says anything because they couldn’t do anything even if they wanted to. They don’t have the power to nix contracts, only the league does.

But back to my original point, the few at the top taking more of the pie just squeezes the guys in the middle and there’s way more members in that class then in the upper class of superstar. The union is trying to protect as many jobs and the associated earnings as possible, encouraging top end guys to maximize value does the opposite.
McDavid could take 7% of what he’s worth (league minimum) and there’s nothing the nhl could do about it.

There’s a salary cap

Ya, I still go the odd game but it took awhile to get used to our announcers. Louie drives me nuts, back in the day we used to call him Louie the lover because he didn’t fight enough. He’s more Louie the lover than ever now, except now he creams over the opponent from upstairs.

I’m not too concerned about Saad, big pile of whatever. I still say the goaltending position needs to be solidified and get either Gibson or Vejmelka. I like Pickard but when Skinner inevitably shits the bed in the playoffs, they need someone to pick up the pieces and run. I don’t give a shit what anyone says, Pickard saved the Oilers in R2 last year. If Skinner started game 6, Van likely closed it out. Those stats posted with Skinners abysmal numbers against top 10 teams are frightening.

The NHLPA cannot shut down a contract because it is simply too low unless it is below the league minimu and even then it is the league that would not accept it.

Dude you are dead wrong. The NHL PA is always pushing for players to take high salaries and avoid playing for heavy discounts.
E. Kane took a deal to play here. Malkin took a deal to stay in Pit. Sid left a ton of money on the table. Rantanen just stated he would have definitely took less to stay on Avs

I think we all know who is dead wrong

Jesus Christ, thanks for letting me know.

My wife never let me know my mortgage was due.

He’s dead wrong on most things he speaks about.

If there was many deal rejected due to this, it would be easy to find on the internet.
